I heard the interview.
He said some very interesting things.
He obviously thinks Kobe is currently the best player in the world and has been for a few years, and is amazed that he has not won the MVP award yet.
He also said the most frustrating aspect of his career so far has been not winning the NCAA championship in his last year in college when he lost to Magic and that he would trade one of his NBA rings for an NCAA Championship.

I heard the interview while driving to work. I was pretty amazed at some of the stuff that he said. Didn't know how much that NCAA championship meant to him.

He said losing to Magic at NCAA hurt WAY MORE than losing to him in the Finals at the Garden. Said he will trade one of his rings for an NCAA championship without a doubt. Said that he still keeps in touch with Magic, that he will score 100 on Magic and Magic will probably score 40 on him. He mentioned how its was WAY more physical back then and the Celtics had a no layup rule. If one guy gives up a free layup the entire team will be on him for the season.

I don't get it...did Bird not know that Kobe hasn't won one? Isn't he a real GM? This is what we aspire to be?

Maybe Bird was too busy trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with his team.

That's the best compliment I've ever heard given to Kobe. He should get that statement engraved on a plaque and bolt it to his front door.

That really sets it off for me. I thought maybe I was just dumb to think Kobe actually desrved the MVP 3 other times. The fact that he hadn't won 1, says a lot about how much the writers hate Kobe.

I'm glad Bird said that. When it's all said and done, they will look back and say, "We really gave it to Nash and Nowitski because we're racist."
The numbers Nash was putting up are embaressing MVP numbers. I still get peed off just thinking about it.

When the awards were given to those guys over Kobe, I said the award no longer means anything. Now that Kobe got it, it still doesn't mean anything, to me. They will say it's a lifetime achievement award, which belittles it even more. What was it when they gave it to Nash? A gesture to their shortcomings, saying we will give to this guy because we never made it.

And he hasn't figured out, it's him?

Not as bad as Sam Mitchell not knowing Bynum was injured though for a game. And Bosh having to correct him, now that is stupid.

You're entirely wrong. The MVP is generally the most dominant player on ONE of the most dominant teams. Kobe's Lakers were 7th/8th seeded teams, name me the last MVP from a lower-seeded team. Check the history on that ****.

How do you expect him to win one then. I said it earlier this season, that if Kobe's Lakers manage to get into a top 4,5 record this year, he'll win it because now the NBA has a reason to give it to him.

MVP does not equal best player in the NBA. It's more team record than anything else.
