The official classy fans thread

Post#1 » by Jazzfan Bayamon » Sat May 3, 2008 10:36 pm

This thread is for all of the classy fans of both teams (Utah/LAL) to share thoughts in a respectable manner. No trolling, trash talking, gloating, etc.

So, I'll start.

The Lakers have been my 2nd favorite team since Shaq left, mostly because Kobe was mightly downplayed and trashed while you guys became a young "underdog" type team which is much easier to root for than a big bad dynasty team you guys were with Shaq. Make no mistake, I want the Jazz to win it all, but if you guys win the series, know I'll be rooting for you guys.

As for the series, I think the Jazz matchup much better with your current lineup than before. Okur is a much better defender, especially when matched up with bigmen like Gasol. Of course Kobe has an advantage, but we've got some practice with McGrady so we might play him a bit better. Deron also has an advantage, although not as big IMO. Boozer-AK and Odom-Rad might cancel eachother out, and both team's have solid deep benches. The biggest weakness Utah has is interior shot blocking, and that might play an important role, however as a team, we're a very capable defensive team (MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN DENVER). BTW, LA's inside shot blocking isn't as good without Bynum either.

As for the Fisher deal... PLEASE!!! Don't get into that. Some (I said some, NOT ALL) fellow Jazz fans took offense to the fact that Fisher QUICKLY headed to LA after being released which gave the impression that he took advantage of the situation to "ditch" us. The truth... none of us can know for certain. The FACTS are that he was a solid player for us and provided good veteran leadership and big shots and memorable moments in last year's playoffs. Then, he needed to leave to attend his daughter so we LET him leave (and get his money off the books). He decided to quickly sign with LA, wether that was premeditated or not we'll never know and is irrelevant. He's now a key player on a great team that is a key rival to the Jazz and some Jazz fans booed him as such. Wether they feel for him on a personal level we will never know and is irrelevant.

I know the Lakers and it's fans took offense to him being booed. As I tried to explain, I very much don't think it was that big a deal. Both teams benefited of the situation and we all hope Fisher and his daughter have gotten what she needed.

That's what it is.

Like I said, this thread is for the classy fans of both teams so we can actually talk about and enjoy what should be a very good/great series. If you feel like trash talking or trolling, then go the general board or to the respective game threads, but try and keep this one civil.

I hope the Jazz win, and have a good shot if they can somehow win one of the first two. If not, you guys will probably win in a range of 5-7 and I'll be rooting for you to go the rest of the way.

Here's to a great series!!!

Good luck to you guys. Fisher is a stud and I miss him being on our team. I think that, without Kobe, we match up pretty well with you. Here hoping we can keep Kobe under 50 a night.

nice thread, hopefully it reaches its potential as a place to discuss the series with ZOMFG!1! kind of posts.

and for the record, booing Fish was childish, the guy had to take care of his kid and I would do the same.
Jazz organization realized it before some of its fans, hopefully the rest will catch up.

Anyway, good luck in the series.

any predictions on how long before the game 1 thread on the general board degenerates into "kobe is a rapist that kicks puppies for fun" vs "malone is a pedophile and boozer needs several cases of proactiv"?

That was a really nice, classy thread. Unfortunately, you're a Utah fan and I'm a Laker fan. your team is standing between our team and the trophy. so, sorry, no handshake. I hope Deron gets 0 assists and Okur bricks 3 pointers all series and we blow you out on Sunday.

I don't always drink beer, but when I do...I prefer Dos Equis.

Yeah what ever..................Our fans are in battle mode. Classy ain't gonna win this series. This series has always been emotional for us Laker fans, we dominated the Jazz in the 80's they got us back in the 90's they wasn't good enough in our 3-peat run so they got off the hook.

But this time we got'em in the cross hairs, taking aim at what's in our way. So the only way to get where we're going is to clear the path.

Sorry Jazz fans but this is business and it's personal that's just the way it's gotta be because the Lakers have a job to do.

Hey but feel free to talk ball with us as long as it's intelligent convo.

And what, devalue the rest of this website? Aren't there rules in place that regulate this entire forum? Trolling isn't allowed anywhere, not just in threads titled "official classy" whatever.

As for the Fisher deal... PLEASE!!! Don't get into that. What are you talking about? The truth is very certain, his daughter needed specialized treatment that was unavailable in Salt Lake City. To cast doubt on that is calling into question Derek Fisher's integrity, the same type of integrity that had him fly back to Utah to hit a clutch three for your team, because of his professionalism and commitment even during trying times.

You come here claiming good intentions, but

1. The vast majority of fans here are classy and abide by the rules. Classy fans don't need a separate, elitist thread to pat themselves on the back or hide from the dark, dark world. We've got the community thread for that.

2. If the Derek Fisher thing isn't a big deal, why bring it up and talk about it so extensively? And on top of it, repeatedly say in so many ways, "we'll never know the truth." Because that statement itself could be seen as insensitive or duplicitous. Not real classy, it's like coming here and bringing up the Colorado incident with Kobe, and saying "we'll never know the truth." It's irrelevant to a basketball discussion, especially a "classy" one.

3. Dos Equis is the Eduardo Najera of Mexican beer.

If they booed Fisher SPECIFICALLY for leaving, then yeah, I'm not on-board. But why can't they boo a rival player?

Anyway, good look to you all as well. I expect a tough series and don't consider the Jazz the favorites. We won't roll over either, though.

Sorry Jazzfan, it looks like you're looking for classy in the wrong place.

Good Luck though, I'm one who hates trash talking...especially since I can't back it up. I'm not playing tomorrow.
