a little ticky tacky, but I think Pierce should be on the 2nd team over Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavs were the lowly 7th seed and got trounced in the first round of the playoffs. Also, wasn't Pierce on the MVP radar for most of the season. If I am not mistaken, he was defintley in the top 10 on that list for majority of the time.

I also believe Camby should have made it over Yao. Since Ming was out for a decent part of the season and Camby really had a stellar season.

I can't believe that 9 idiots left KG off their first team ballot, and 10 voters didn't vote for Lebron for first team. Pretty ridiculous.

1st team looks right to me, IMO neither Amare nor Deron Williams deserve to be on the 2nd team...In fact I probably wouldn't have even put Deron Williams on the 3rd team.

PP on the 3rd team? Its tough to judge, guys like T-Mac and Ginobili arguably do deserve consideration over him.

Well Paul had 2 first team votes and Dirk only had 1 so you definitely have a point there. However, Paul came up short in total points by 38.

Four of the guys on the first team were no-brainers -- legitimate top 4 MVP choices, with most of the debate being about what order they were in, and their positions lined up well.

Pierce beaten out by two top-four MVP vote getters and two former MVPs still playing at a high level? I can live with that.

I loved seeing Al get some votes.

As for the selections, I would have liked to see Pierce as a 2nd team, over Dirk, but I'm happy he made it nonetheless.

And yes -- this first team would be a fine set of starters for the Olympics.
But to compare the Dream Team vs. this one:

1. Dream Team had a big edge at center.
2. Dream Team had a significant edge at guard, although they wound up having health issues at PG. The edge would have been significantly greater if Isiah had been allowed to come.
3. Dream Team was highly competitive with this one at forward.

Well, I agree. But it's still kind of incredible considering he was basically done at that point of his career. I put Magic as #1B as greatest ever though. (For the record, Russell 1C, Wilt 2A, Big O 2B, Jordan 3)

Not sure if I agree with this.

1) Centers: Ewing and Robinson vs. Howard and Duncan. At most its a wash, and if anything I mike like Howard/Duncan better. Duncan could match the inside/outside contributions of Ewing or Robinson, but nobody could match Howard's explosiveness.

2) I'll give you the guards, as it's pretty hard to argue with Magic and Mike. But I will say that Paul and Bryant are looking like the best possible combo of PG/SG that could have been put together in the 16 years since the dream team.

3) Forwards: Bird and Barkley would have fits trying to match-up to LeBron and KG on defense, just due to sheer size and athleticism. But Pippen and Malone would nullify most of those advantages, so I do think that would be competitive.

On the whole, though, I think I would pay good money to see that match-up played out with strong coaches on each side.

I really would like to see Bird taking a zillion charge versus LBJ :lol:

And then the guy penetrates no more and become a jump shooter... Who's gonna win in a Jum Shooting contest?

Beside the eight Barkley in stronger than KG but I'm pretty sure he will drop 15-20 over his head with jump shooting alone.

That said, the right defensive matchup to me are...

Magic(Stockton)/Cp3
MJ/Kobe
Bird(Pippen)/LBJ
Ewing(Bird)/KG
Malone(Barkley)/Howard

I don't see how Original DT can't destroy the new one, maybe the duel will be more even in NBA ball, but in international ball this is a no-contest.

PS: To be fair, if you put TD in you also have to bring Hakeem the Dream

You could make a strong argument that the top 2 players in NBA history were both Celtics...the argument that he's the 2nd best Celtics is legitimate but certainly doesn't make the argument that he's the best ever ridiculous.
