Feasible offseason?

Post#1 » by ClubLakers KB8 » Mon May 19, 2008 8:33 pm

Just wondering a few things about your position this summer...

1.) What is the exact cap you have?
2.) How much would you offer Brand?
3.) Could you get Brand and still re-sign Iggy, or better yet, get J. Smith?

1) Reports of the salary cap number suggest we'll have somewhere around 10-12 million.

2) If the Sixers are interested, they would definitely offer all of the 10-12 million they have.

3) Andre is a RFA and already counts against the cap with his 8 million dollar cap hold. Taking that hold into account, we're 10-12 million under the cap. So to answer your question, yes we can sign Andre (I believe the contract he was offered last season would start at around 8-9 million) and still go after Brand with that 10-12 million (though I don't think that will be enough to steal him from the Clippers). And we can only go after one of the two (unless it's a S&T), but Smith is in the same boat as Brand, he'll cost more than we have to offer.

I think I read that the salary cap is rising almost 3 million. That would give Philly more money to go after Brand. IMO they should stay away because of the injury that he had but others will think differently about this. Philly can get Brand or Arenas if they opt out without compensation & Josh Smith or Okafor if their teams don't match a contract. Iguodala & Lou Williams can be resigned in any scenario.
