Orlando / Minnesota
Was trying to work on something to get us into the early 20's with another pick and have a few premises on something, figured I would let you guys weigh in and tweak it a bit.
Essentially I have a basic idea with Orlando (who are looking for help at the 1 or 2) of:
McCants + Buckner (exp) for Battie + #22
Here I think we give up too much. I revised and..
McCants + Jaric + #31 for Battie + Reddick + #22
Here I think Orlando will think they gave up too much.
Essentially, these put us back in the 1st round again and possibly give us a servicable big man (Orlando seems fairly high on Battie though, even with coming off an injury). Reddick reportedly wasn't happy and would give us a shooter. The second trade also reduces Jaric's contract for a year.
Orlando wanted point help for Nelson (Jaric trade) and/or better wing defense (Buckner trade) and/or over all improvement and athleticism at 2 (McCants). This puts a bigger hurt on their roster in terms of bigmen though, hence the second rounder in the one trade. I don't think Orlando is looking for expirings though, not with the huge contracts they now have.
Anyhow, thoughts or tweaks?

I think we value McCants differently, but respect your opinion on him. I would like to see him flourish here, I just don't see it happening. I will simply mark you down as not interested in the trade.

I just dont see how anyone could think Robin Lopez is worth Mccants. The dude is a career back up at best. As a matter of fact any center you see at 21 will basically be a guaranteed bench guy. I dont think HIbbert is worth it either and even if I did I dont think he falls that far. Koufas is also def not worth it so I dont see anyone of value of mccants in the 20s.
Better off just going for the big in the second round unless a deal to move further up arises where you could net a Javale Mcgee , Sasha Kaun, John Riek, Semih Erden, or Omer Asik

Though getting the #22 pick and center prospect is a big component to this, it's not the only thing. We shave a year off Jaric's contract, get s serviceable big man in Battie who can also mentor the draft pick a bit, and we pick up a sharpshooter from the outside on his rookie contract.
McCants > Reddick
Jaric < Battie
#31 < #22
or
McCants > #22
Jaric < Battie
#31 < Reddick
Now maybe you add more >'s to certain parts of it, but valuewise I don't think it is horribly off; and again, it depends on how you value McCants (as well as Reddick, Battie, and Jaric)

I agree with delux, taking a big man anywhere out of the top 10 or even top 3-5 is basically a crap shoot. I rather have us take our chances on someone like Omer Asik. And if we're going to trade McCants and other assets, go for an already established big.
Unless JaVale McGee is there at 22 then I may be interested.

Saved the #34 for Asik. Am very interested in him as well and gave the little information I had on him in the Euro thread Tekkenlaw. I see the point though. McCants is hard to gage value wise for me. I don't see him as great an asset for us currently, but maybe he needs another half season to establish his value and position on the team.

1 yr less, slightly cheaper (maybe not if a trade kicker involved), decent rebounding, defensive, shot-blocking big who would currently start at the 5 with our roster pre-draft and Al at the 4.
This is, of course, a healthy Battie, which may or may not be the case. Orlando is actually fairly high on him (may be due to their lack of bigs) and probably wouldn't want to do this trade based on just him alone.
I could have maybe gone Jaric = Battie for all intents and purposes. Jaric does a lot for us and I am actually a fan of Mr. Lima, but with the youngs pushing forward for time and needing to develop, I think Jaric lessens in value.

i like mccants alot actually, but i hope for mayo so i would be cool with a mccants trade for a mid first round pick, maybe hibbert or lopez is there and we can at least have one 7 footer on our roster
but a foye/mayo pg sg with mccants off the bench is actually pretty nice

In theory, yes, but you have to take the ego factor into account. I think it's too much to ask young, unestablished NBA players to take on roles like this... what I'm saying is that I don't think McCants would cotton to playing behind Mayo. It's probably better to have an established veteran in the rotation with Foye/Mayo (hello, Greg Buckner!) rather than ask McCants to take that role. Just like I was in favor of trading Foye if we ended up with Rose, I think McCants should be traded if we draft Mayo.
I like this trade... Battie is a good fit as a veteran mentor. I think the Wolves end up with less talent, but will be a better mix... the whole being better than the sum of the parts. You only have to look at Portland's trade of Randolph last year to see the value of a trade that leaves the roster like this:
Gomes/Brewer
Jefferson/Smith
Battie/R. Lopez
Mayo/Buckner
Foye/Telfair
I'd personally go after Chris Duhon to fill the backup point role, but either way that's basically last year's team without the chemistry issues (McCants), more size and more experience. And we'd still have Walker's expiring to make a move at the deadline. I'd do it.

I like Mccants as much as the next guy, but he is not the type of guy that will like coming off the bench. He has the perfect skill set (all offense, no defense), but his ego won't ever let him do it. It takes a team player to be 6th man.
the league knows that attitude problem is a concern and I think many of you overvalue his trade potential. In a lot of ways he would be addition by subtraction. If he can net us a 3pt shooting role player and legit starting C, I would be elated.

He actually flourished as a sixth man and I don't think he would have a problem being one. His chemistry issues are only with the coach he is still in favor with his teamates. Wittman has no long term future here, I think mccants does. Once you know what role your team wants you for you accept that and move forward. He would be comfortable as a 6th man if thats his role night in and night out. Wittman had so many rotation issues and that affected alot of the younger players.
We don't have to fill every need this off season I ful expect to be in the lotto again next year, where we can find a starting center. Tony injured Battie is trash and a worthless pick up and R. Lopez will never be a starter in the NBA
