Steve Nash now the only MVP who never reached the NBA finals
Even "Disappearing act" Garnett reached it, so the two time MVP still didn`t smack the finals.

That's because they waited to see if Dirk could reach the Finals before giving him his MVP.
Nash was the MVP of the regular-season dominating Suns team. And it's a regular season award. Plus he's been to the WCF plenty with two different teams.
I swear you people are treating this the same way you'd treat Gerald Green if he won MVP.

Because we all know that Steve Nash would have a ring if it wasn't for Stern and those ridiculous suspensions last year.
Steve Nash did what he needed to do to win a ring, so this thread really doesn't mean jack.
Suns got screwed but Nash still did not deserve MVP.
Every other player that has won the award has been top 3 in efficiency and or win shares.
Nash was 3rd on his OWN TEAM in those categories.
He got way too much credit for that team's turnaround over D'Antoni's stystem and the departure of the cancer Marbury

Garnett had to cry his way out of Minnesota to finally reach the finals.
Let Nash do the same and he will be in the finals quicker than you can say anything.
Also, put the Suns of the last 3 years into the Eastern Conference and I am positive they would have come out every year.
Garnett put his heart and soul in Minny, any other superstar would have asked to leave far earlier than Kg did; imo Kg should have demanded a trade earlier, but he was just to loyal.

I see, so if an MVP makes the finals as a role player a decade after he was actually good, this legitimizes his MVP in your mind. Fascinating.

It doesn't matter. The Suns system wasn't designed to get them to the Finals, but rather to make the Playoffs. Mike D'Antoni couldn't possibly believe his style would beat a team like the Spurs or Jazz, I'm sure. He just had to say it so that his offensive-focused gameplan would stay in place. Had Nash been on a team where he was surrounded by a couple more defensive-minded players, I'm sure he could have the Finals once or twice. Also, the road still went through the Spurs, who were in their prime then. The Lakers steamrolled through a somewhat weaker Spurs squad. Yes, the beat the Hornets, but it was the Hornets wrongdoing as much as the Spurs 'overcoming the odds'.

I dont think it should really matter if you make the finals. The mvp award is given to the best player in the league during the regular season. Yes getting to the finals is a nice bonus and something that, if your the best, you should be able to reach. But he was still the best in the league and that's all that matters.

Kobe this year was also not top 3 in those categories. For some reason, he won MVP because he had better players around him and that magically makes him a better player. Chris Paul however, was 2nd in PER and 1st in win shares (by a huge margin) but was "too young" and his team wasn't good enough (56-26 over Kobe's Lakers' ridiculous 57-27 OMG!). Yep, Kobe deserved MVP.

I think that just shows that maybe people are putting a bit too much stock in those stats. I don't know how people can look at Kobe right now and think he's a clearly inferior player to anyone.
