Do we want to keep Oneal?

Post#1 » by DannyGranger » Mon Jun 2, 2008 10:00 am

Oneal says that he doesnt want to be apart of a team that is rebuilding. We obviously cant rebuild around a player that we're going to get at #11, it doesnt look like its happening. Oneal claims that he will be 100% this summer because he has had a lot of time to recover for the first time in 4 seasons. We cant keep Tinsley, its obvious that hes finished, he has too many issues like off court issues and his work ethic, so we need a new PG. Another issue we have is our dee. Yes we scored a lot last season but we allowed a greater number of points, so it doesnt really makes sense to score all that much if youre allowing opponents to score even more. Heres what I worked out:

I am totally for getting Hinrich, hes an amazing PG who had one bad season. He has no off-court issues that which our team has been plagued with the during the past few years (with Tins, Daniels, Shawne Williams and Harrison), hes a good defender and hes a team leader. The only thing I dont want to see is JO getting traded, he claims to be 100% this summer; lets just see what Morway does with him this summer. I wouldnt mind Tinsley, Daniels and Dunleavy getting traded for Hinrich and Nocioni; then trade Harrison and Shawne Williams (it'll clear a lot of off-court issues) for Channing Frye

Hinrich
Granger
Nocioni
Frye/#11 pick (hopefully Love)
Oneal

Bench: Diogu, Foster, Murphy, Diener, Rush, Flip. Bench is weaker, but our team is overall better

Ummm i pretty sure this will get locked but there is no way that Chicago does that trade. Unless we give them like 2 future 1st round picks whicj aint happening.

What the Pacers need to do is really simple. Trade JO for expiring contracts, suck really bad for a couple seasons. Let these bad contracts expire, get a some studs in the first 1-5 picks in the 09-11 drafts, then with our new cap room in 2011 go after some top level free agents. That is the only way the Pacers will get back to Championship level basketball, any other
plans are sideways and garbage. IMO

Time to tear it all down and start over.

Yeah I say we get rid of him for a pick and a couple talented young players.

I think JO needs to go, mainly because I don't think he really wants to be in Indiana any more.

I'm torn as to whether we should sell low on him this summer (which is the only price the Pacers are going to get for him at the moment) or hang on for another year and see if he improves his trade value, either by having a better and healthier season next year or just by becoming a guy in the last year of his contract next summer.

even if we keep him for the next couple of years and keep getting decent draft picks, once his contract is up we'll have sooo much money to shop in the free agent market...i think thats when Lebron, Wade and Bosh's all become free agents, but i dont see anyone of their teams letting those kind of players go (they'll match any offer)

Their teams cant match any offer, they will be unrestricted free agents. I cant see any of those guys coming here to play, especially with the glut of big market teams already clearing cap space to make a run at them (Nets and Knicks in particular). Not to mention, their current teams will be able to throw them more money than we could. Indiana is not a market that wins by signing big name free agents. Cap space is valuable to us as a trade asset and signing solid role players and rotation guys. The way smaller market teams get superstar type players is to get lucky in the draft or trade for them.
