Tiers

Post#1 » by HeavyP » Mon Jun 2, 2008 10:33 pm

I'm a big believer in drafting the BPA when it comes to your turn to draft. However, most people are concerned about finding players that fit what they need. So this is where the thought of Tiers comes into play, you always draft from the top tier available. I've also ranked the players I like most in the tiers. Feel free to comment or make your own tiers. Let me know if I forgot anyone as I was doing this off the top of my head thinking where I would rank people, etc.

Tier 1
Michael Beasley
Derrick Rose
OJ Mayo

Tier 2
Jerryd Bayless
Brook Lopez
Kevin Love

Tier 3:
Russell Westbrook
Danilo Gallinari
DJ Augustin

Tier 4
Brandon Rush
Nicolas Batum
Joe Alexander
Eric Gordon
Kosta Koufos
Marreese Speights
Chase Budinger
Ty Lawson
Anthony Randolph

Tier 5
Roy Hibbert
Deandre Jordan
JaVale McGee
Darrell Arthur
Donte Greene
Chris Douglas-Roberts

Tier 6
Robin Lopez
Alexis Ajinca
Courtney Lee
Wayne Ellington
Bill Walker
DJ White
Kyle Weaver
Joey Dorsey
Devon Hardin

Tier 7

What are you hearing about concerns of Mayo's mid-range game?

I've heard nothing of the sort. Infact, I've heard that scouts are very impressed with how hard he is working on his mid range game... I'm wondering where you're hearing that, we could just have conflicting reports.

Tier 1

Beasley
Rose

Tier 2 (guards)

Mayo
Bayless

Tier 2 (bigs)

Lopez
Love
Randolph

Your system has so many tiers as to be confusing. Is it even possible to rate someone as a "seventh tier" player?

Rose, Beasley, Mayo.

Bayless, Lopez, Love, Gordon.

Randolph, Galinari, Westbrook, Alexander.

Augustin, Rush, Jordan( I just think some dumb GM will gamble), Arthur, McGee(another gamble on a big project), Koufus, Speights, Greene, Batum, Walker.

Anyone's guess after that but I'm sure I've missed a couple. I think all of the top three tiers will be lottery picks and you can choose any three from my tier four.

I also expect that one or two surprises from left field move into a lottery position on draft day.

You're missing N Batum. I'd put him in there with B Rush.

To me it's something like this..

Rose, Beasley

Mayo, Bayless, B. Lopez

Gordon, Augustin, Westbrook, Gallinari, Love

Randolph*, Jordan*, Speights**, Green, Batum, Alexander

*= High upside guys that some GM might fall in love with
**= great all around tools, but not sure if he's motivated enough

BTW: Looking at that chart, it should be clear why i'm against trading down and would rather just take the BPA at #4.

Alexander should be in 3rd tier.
