Just wondering what your thoughts would be on eliminating Interleague play and having the baseball season only lasting say 150 games and giving a new playoff format.
Start the year at the same time, but end it near the start of SEPT. There you take the top 6 teams (3 division leaders, top 3 afterwards) for each league...top 2 get byes (Like the NFL) and that way maybe teams who are legitimate playoff teams can actually get in. First round is a best of 5.
Hypothetical Setup
AL EAST
New York 100-62(1)
Toronto 91-71(4)
Boston 89-73 (5)
Baltimore 75-87
Tampa 71-91
AL Central
Cleveland 94-68(2)
Detroit 92-70(3)
Minnesota 85-78
Chicago 82-80
Kansas City 68-94
AL West
LA Angels 87-75 (6)
Oakland 85-77
Seattle 79-83
Texas 74-88
(1) NY and (2) CLE are through to the next round
(3) DET vs (6) ANA
(4) TOR vs (5) BOS
NY against Winner of DET/LAA
CLE against Winner of TOR/BOS
**I know alot of you like the system they have today, I just want to see more playoff teams because there's nothing like playoff baseball to help revive the sport in the city. See DET...they were struggling for a while...make the playoffs...and they haven't looked back since.

The sad thing is I don't think they'd do it just because of the AL east. The MLB loves the rivalry between those 3 teams and if they all get in it takes away from that. I want it, because IMO it is very unfair the jays, rays, and orioles are stuck in a division with 2 premier teams in baseball, which essentially lowers their probability of making the playoffs. I'm for it, but realistically it won't happen.

I would like that a lot. PLayoff ball is so exciting to watch even if you aren't a fan of either of the teams playing. More playoff ball the better in my opinion. Would love to see the Jays have an easier route to the playoffs too. I'd be all for it, but as Andrea>Dirk said it probably will never happen.

While I enjoy any idea that means the jays might actually make the playoffs, I've been told the problem with this playoff plan is that baseball is a lot harder of a game to take over a week off from than any of the other major sports, and it makes sense to me. Players get into a rhythm playing most days during the year, with the largest break being what, 4 days or so around the all-star game (which everyone else also had off) so the week (maybe closer to two weeks considering the gap between the start and the end of the season) is a disadvantage to the higher seeded team.

Just have a balanced schedule, 1 division, and take the top 4 teams. Baseball has always required just the elite for the playoffs and I'm fine with that. But with 6 divisions you are pretty much guarenteed that 1 team who doesn't deserve to be there gets in every season. The problem is that team will never come from the AL East... if you get into the playoffs out of the East you have to EARN IT.
But, if everyone had to face the Yankees the same amount of times as the Jays did then I have no problem with 4 playoff teams.

I would like to see the elimination of inter-league play along with a more balanced schedule. There is room for one more team in the playoffs, an extra wild card with the 2 wildcards facing each other in a best of 3. I know this is not ideal but time and scheduling is a problem. If it were not for greedy owners, a doubleheader could be scheduled for the 1st 2 games. Well, I suppose it could be a day/night with separate audiences. Doesn't give much chance to the advancing team but it seems better than no chance at all.

The more balanced schedule is really the key to everything. Its one thing for the Jays to have to be in the same division as the red sox and yankees and compete for 1 (or 2) playoff spots. But its another thing for us to have to face them 42 times a year.

I see how a more balanced schedule sounds good, for the fact we have to play the Yankees and Sox less, but don't forget the flip side of it: the Yankees and Sox come here less, and Rogers gets to play Jays-Yanks/Sox games less. That means less revenue, and hit to the payroll likely follows from that.
