How good are the Rays in 08?

Post#1 » by OSBB » Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:14 pm

Look at this (not a batting order):

C Navarro
1B Upton
2B Longoria
SS Brignac
3B Iwamura
LF Crawford
CF Baldelli
RF Young
DH Dukes

Hate to toot my own teams horn but, toot toot. That is completely sick.

Great offense with lots of power and speed. They just need a couple of solid starting pitching and they will be very good. Too bad the Rays play in the AL East though.

Crazy good young offense. If they get pitching, they can make some noise, even in that division.

4th place in the AL East next year but I think by 2010 they are World Series contenders if they keep this team together.

Kazmir, Shields, and Price (god damn it, you better take Price) in the rotation, too. Sweet. And McGee, Niemann and one of those other dudes who pitches might be in the running.

Relief is a concern, though.

Upton at first is likely the biggest waste of athleticism in the history of sports. Really, that's horrible. Move him to center and trade Baldelli. Or trade Upton.

09 Rays>08 Rays

Mostly because I doubt McGee and Price pitch in 2008 and Brignac might not get the call until late 2008. Also by 2009 they can use all there pitching depth in the minors to have one of the best bullpens in the game. But like BG said Upton should be playing in the OF. I personally don't really like Navarro and would upgrade there, or upgrade to a slugging 1B, using Baldelli and/or prospect pitching depth as a trading chip(s).

Agreed about Upton..

I laughed when I saw him at first.

Upton's doing fine at second. The main problem with his fielding was throwing the ball away, and that's not really a concern at second cos there's less far to go. He hasn't played much second yet, and it's shwoing, but he's doing fine as a second baseman.

Thing is, Dukes at 1st would be a similar waste. As would Longoria. But it's a nice problem to have.
