Mets vs. Diamondbacks Series | June 1st -> June 3rd

Post#1 » by Jose7 » Fri Jun 1, 2007 8:23 pm

LETS GO METS!!

Friday, June 1 Purchase Tickets Shea Stadium | 7:10 PM ET
ARI Brandon Webb, RHP (4-3, 3.74)
Diamondbacks (32-23) @ NYM John Maine, RHP (6-2, 2.79)
Mets (34-18)

Scouting Report:
D-backs: Webb is expected to start against the Mets despite sustaining a bruised forearm off a line drive on May 26. Webb earned the win against the Astros anyway, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs. He struck out eight. Webb lost his only start vs. the Mets this season, on May 5, giving up five runs over six innings.

Mets: Maine took a step in his last start toward returning to his early-season form. He had given up 11 earned runs in his previous three starts before holding the Marlins to two runs over six innings of a 7-2 victory. Maine said he was just "fed up" about pitching poorly. He decided to be more aggressive again, keeping in mind that he, like most pitchers, needs to keep the ball low in the strike zone to win consistently. A sign that he is back on track is that he struck out eight in the game.

Saturday, June 2 Purchase Tickets Shea Stadium | 1:10 PM ET
ARI Livan Hernandez, RHP (5-2, 3.58)
Diamondbacks (32-23) @ NYM Jorge Sosa, RHP (4-1, 3.64)
Mets (34-18)

Scouting Report:
D-backs: On Sunday against the Astros, Hernandez threw his first complete game since September 2005, allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits to get the win. Hernandez, among the league leaders in walks, did not issue a free pass in his 114-pitch effort. He has been spectacular in his past three starts, going 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA. Hernandez earned Arizona's only win in a four-game series against the Mets earlier this year at Chase Field, giving up a run on six hits in seven innings. For his career, Hernandez is 11-12 with a 4.59 ERA in 31 starts against New York.

Mets: Sosa used the Marlins last Sunday to regain some momentum after his troubling loss to the Braves on May 22. Sosa was particularly effective for the game's first four innings, allowing just two runners. He wound up going 5 2/3 innings -- giving up two runs -- and gave up two very hard-hit outs before he was removed from the game. The Mets will likely watch him closely when he reaches the middle of the game for any signs of fatigue or loss of focus.

Sunday, June 3 Purchase Tickets Shea Stadium | 1:10 PM ET
ARI Doug Davis, LHP (3-6, 3.27)
Diamondbacks (32-23) @ NYM Oliver Perez, LHP (6-3, 2.69)
Mets (34-18)

Scouting Report:
D-backs: Davis put together his best outing of the season against the Phillies on Monday. He went eight innings, the longest he's lasted all year, and allowed just one run while earning his first win in his last six starts. Davis' longevity was a product of his control. He didn't issue a walk for the first time all season. Davis hasn't faced the Mets this season.

Mets: Perez seemed primed for disaster in his last outing against the Giants, allowing homers to two of the first four batters he faced. But he quickly settled down to retire the next 14 straight, and wound up pitching another solid game, with just three runs in seven innings. It's now been four straight quality starts for Perez, and he'll look to make it five against a Diamondbacks team that he's 1-4 against in his career.

I think this is tonights lineup

Reyes SS
Chavez CF
Easley LF
Delgado 1b
LoDuca C
Newhan RF
Gotay 2b
Franco 3b
Maine P

I know the first 4 is right. I also know Frankenstein is at 3b and Newhan is in the lineup. Not sure if the other player is Gotay, Johnson or Gomez. If it's Gotay then Easley is in LF. If it's Easley at 2b, then either Johnson or Gomez is in the of.

Anyway, it's one stinky lineup! And Wrights back spasms and Beltran boo boo on his knee aren't serious.

With Beltran, Alou, Green, and Wright out, there really is nothing to watch on the field either.

Thank god I wasn't around to watch this horrible game.

Newhan and Franco in the same lineup?

Willie might as well have just forfeit the game? :nonono: :nonono:

Ben Johnson was horrible too. Flailing away at curve balls. Actually Brandon Webb was nasty tonight. He had that Greg Maddux nasty movement. Maine pitched well. Oh and Julio Frankenstein stole a base and made a nice play at third.

As much as I like Valentin, I want Gotay to remain at second.

Gotay has POWER in that swing.

Good potential to be a starting 2b.

Yes, he's been very impressive. I like Easley and Gotay more at second over Valentin when we have a lot of regulars out. When Alou, Green and Beltran come back, then I like Valentin at 2b because his defense has been great. Easley's defense at 2b scares me. In the playoffs I want the best defensive team out there.

This would be a huge win if we hold on with all of our injuries.

Easley is a terrific bench player.

Gotay needs to start because I think Valentin is done with that bad knee. It doesn't heal that quickly.

Easley has been great. Gotay is a nice player but, I was looking at his career stats through the minors and with the Royals, nothing suggests that he will be our everyday starter in the future. He seems like another really good bench player though.

One guy who I've been impressed with is the 2b of the DBacks, Orlando Hudson the former BlueJay. Wow that guy has some sick range at 2b. I can see he and Reyes forming a dynamic up the middle combination for many years.

I would pay good money to see Reyes and Gomez race.

Return to New York Mets
