The State of the Cubbies

Post#1 » by brewcityboii » Sun Jun 24, 2007 5:47 pm

I was interested in finding out what cubs fans think of how the team is playing. IMO I thought the Cubs were hands down the best team in the NL central before the season started, Just trying to figure out what there issues have really been as I have not been able to see as many cubs games as I have in the past seeing that WGN plays alot of the sox games now...who by the way I can not stand. But not to get off topic was just wondering all of your thoughts on the current state of the cubs.

We are playing much better now than we did in late May.
If Alfonso stays hot like he has been we are in great shape.
Also our bullpen which sucked in May and April has been lights out so far in June.

We recently had a good stretch of winning, and then we started losing a bit last week especially at Texas as the Brewers started heating up again. I think we are out of that funk as we are on a winning streak again. Our first goal is to get to .500 baseball.

Other than our weak RF spot, I don't see any reason why this Cubs team can't contend in the NL Central. It seems like they've lost a host of close games this year, and generally just haven't gotten the breaks.

I expect the Cubbies to have a solid second half and end up somewhere around .500. My preseason prediction was right around 84 wins, and I think I'll stick with that.

The rest of this season is going to be very fun if we keep winning. Especially keeping pace with the Milwaukee Beers, and their equally competitive board.
