Maybe it isn't a good idea after all to give 6 or seven year contracts to anyone over the age of 29.
There are only 10 position players in the AL over the age of 33.
Kenny Lofton
Jorge Posada
Ivan Rodriguez
Kevin Millar
Mark Grudzielanek
Melvin Mora
Raul Ibanez
Manny Ramirez
Royce Clayton (if you can even call him regular)
Jay Payton
In the NL
Paul Loduca
Scott Hatteberg
Ryan Klesko
Aaron Boone
Ray Durham
Jeff Kent
Craig Biggio
Chipper Jones
Omar Vizquel
Barry Bonds
Moises Alou
Luis Gonzalez
Mike Cameron
Jim Edmonds
Ken Griffey
Shawn Green
Brian Giles
They don't call it the senior circuit for nothing

That seems pretty low, actually. Anybody have any numbers from previous decades for comparison?

I think baseball seems to be a bit older on average with some of the DH and all. By comparison, most of the English soccer leagues will outright fire you if you are older than 31 or 32. No questions asked, that's just the way it is. They have brighter, more talented, and younger rookies looking to take their place at any given point.
I think for most sports, baseball is a bit older on average.

You might want to look up "analogy", it is a comparison. I like though how everyone is arguing the analogy of my post... it's pretty fun. Pointless... but fun.
I hope all my posts get this much silly attention. Thanks everyone!

analogies
analogy (plural analogies)
1. The use of a similar example or model to explain or extrapolate from.
The birthing class instructor used a balloon and a ping-pong ball as an analogy for the baby in the womb.
Many use the Gospels' analogy of a mustard seed growing into a huge plant to explain faith.
[edit] Synonyms
* (similar example as explanation): example, parable
You weren't explaining or extrapolating anything about baseball from soccer, you were just comparing the ages players are considered old in the two sports. Thanks for trying to seem smart though.

Touchy touchy aren't we. Are you feeling better now that you proved me wrong? Well done lad. I will have a merit badge mailed to you for getting that accomplished.
I was under the impression that these forums were to discuss sports. Had I read more carefully I would have realized it is actually a vocab and spelling bee. My apologies to all the scholors in the forum... How dare I!!

I'm not touchy at all; you told me to look it up. I did. You were wrong. Now that you're wrong, trying to act above the whole thing is a little cheap though, no?
