Salaam treatment

Post#1 » by El Ridda » Fri Jul 20, 2007 2:29 am

In today's trib article about the cubs win, they referenced that the left field bleachers were now giving Soriano the "Salaam Treatment." They said that it is a tradition that goes back to 1987 with A Dawson when Harry deemed it the salami treatment.

Does anyone know what this means? I used to go to 30+ games a year and I still couldn't figure out what the article was referencing.

They bow to him when he's heading to his position.

As any Cubs fan worth his pinstripes knows, the fans sitting in Wrigley's right field bleachers from 1987 to 1992 honored Dawson with salaams -- ceremonious bows with arms stretched toward home plate -- every time he belted a home run, made a big defensive play or plugged Tru-Link Fence.

I cringe typing this out but even Sammy got the treatment for a long long time.

Soriano deserves it..

He's having a great year.
