Lineup when Giambi Comes Back

Post#1 » by KnickTerp12 » Mon Aug 6, 2007 12:57 am

Giambi is reportedly due back to the Yankees some where in Toronto. What should our lineup be? We have a huge glut now with Damon, Betemit, Giambi deserving time.

I really have no idea what the best lineup is. Melky is playing great, plus I love what Phillips has done so far, and Betemit looks good too. I'm thinking Damon may lose more playing time. Plus there's also Shelley.

Shelley is nothing more than a backup who will get random starts to give guys a breather, same can be said for Betemit right now. Damon and Phillips will be the two that will be affected most and should be worried, but how they will be affected is anybody's guess.

Here is the thing. Giambi can't play first and Damon can't hit or field. Ideally, Damon should sit and be a pinch runner. Giambi at full-time DH is acceptable but I don't think he should play more than 4 times a week, guys like Matsui and Abreu need a break(Damon can fill in) plus even though Jeter and Arod hate DH-ing and would rather be in the field, they need occasional days off as well. Rotate Shelly in the DH spot as well.

However, with Torre being Torre I see one of two things happening. Either Giambi DH-ing with Damon in CF and Andy Phillips playing first or Damon DH-ing with Giambi at 1B and Melky stepping in. My guess is 9 days out of 10 he goes with option one. -Jitpal

Anyone with half a brain knew Melky was better last year than Damon. Yet, when we got our OFer's back last year, Melky sat. Why would this year be any different? -Jitpal

He's a hell of a lot more proven this year, and Damon was a .320 hitter with 25 homers last year (quite the opposite this year).

Melky won't sit because he's better both defensively and now offensively compared to Damon.

I'd have Betemit spell Phillips at 1B from time to time, and then also have him fill in for Jeter and AROD when they need that occasional day off.

Have Damon and Giambi platoon at DH with Giambi getting the majority of the looks. Have Damon the 4th OF when other guys need a break.

Hey I hope you guys are right but if past history is any sort of indication, then Melky isn't going to be playing everyday which would be a shame. -Jitpal

Damon seemed like he was starting to come around before his 0-6. He sees a lot of pitches and has a good OBP compared to his average. Also isn't he like 18/19 stealing bases. If he can start hitting again its going to be hard to leave a guy like that on the bench. Also he seems to make a great play in left field whenever he plays.

I like the idea of having melky and damon in the lineup. i think its their speed thats initiating this offensive enslaught.

Plus Giambi is coming back to a good thing and I think he has to earn his spot and should be coming off da bench and have some spot starts.

Asked whether the arrival of Jason Giambi could result in Cabrera losing time, Joe Torre shook his head.

So many things wrong with this....

1st off damon is probably going to start at 1st for us, jeter bats 2nd and matsui 5th, melky will be batting 9th not 1st, giambi 7th, posada 6th, cano 8th....

Damon
Jeter
Abreu
A-Rod
Matsui
Posada
Giambi
Cano
Melky

Bench:
Doug(defense at 1st)
Betemit(pinch hitter)
Molina
Cairo(Pinch Runner and defense)

Shelley duncan and phillips will probably be sent down....

Cairo will be gone and Duncan will stay. He gives us a right handed pinch hitter while Betemit will be the left handed pinch hitter. There isn't a timetable for Douggie as far as I know, so Phillips is here to stay for now.
