Your Package for Haren/Blanton would be...?

Post#1 » by gooGD » Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:15 pm

Mine would be:

For Haren:
Milledge, Heilman, Mulvey and a smaller pitching prospect like Carlos Muniz

For Blanton:

Milledge + Mulvey

I would/will pull the trigger for Blanton in a heartbeat if we can avoid trading away Humber/Pelf/Hielman.

I know his ERA isn't as good as Haren/Santana and also considering he pitches in the offensively challenged AL West its true he is a step lower than the likes of Haren and Santana, but he exactly fits the bill for what we need on this team: Proven durability, 200 innings, youth, and control for years to come (like Maine/Perez).

I understand that he doesnt throw 95, but lets not forget, he is going to replace Glavine in our lineup. Glavine was our "pseudo" ace by default because of his age and he was proven, but in reality last year John Maine was our ace. He has more quality innings in his 200 than Glavine did for us this last year- that is going to be a no brainer. I would definitely trade for Blanton not just because he is cheaper, but because I still believe in Pelfrey/Humber and Heilman.

Harden is also an electric player but hes constantly hurt. I know that Beane wants to ship him off and probably- he is most easily to pry away from the A's considering the rumors starting from LAST YEAR with us. I would be weary of trading for just Harden and only would take him on as a package with Blanton, and I would very much *consider* the thought of giving up Pelfrey/Humber/Heilman with Harden because he is that darn good. And if we do take him, and he continues to get hurt, we can always throw him into the bullpen which would make Heilman even more expendable, or we can always do what Heilman wanted from day 1: give him a shot at being a starter...

In summary, I would much rather prefer we trade for Blanton. Let the teams with better prospects ship then away for Santana and Haren. I like/want Haren, but Blanton is cheaper, and is certainly an upgrade over Glavine. This also allows Pelfrey/Humber to prove that they are Major League ready and are better than they showed last year. I still believe in these 2 kids and we should keep them. If the dodgers/yanks/sox dump prospects for Haren/Santana that would only increase our farm system and buying capability for available players next year. Trading for Blanton is the right move IMO.

trading with oakland is scary because billy beane is smarter than all the other GM's and he knows it. if he doesn't ask for TOO MUCH, get haren. he'd destroy the NL.

That won't get it done, my friend.
Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

Double standard?
