Hmmm.
Guess that means Clement moves to DH/1B/OF next year? Or this year? Or what?
Johjima re-signed. What to do with Clement?

So, if history shows us anything, Bavasi will turn his focus to extending Sexson and Wilkerson because we need to keep the Sexson/Wilkerson/Johjima/Vidro core together. Not scoring runs places more pressure on the starting pitching to produce, dammit! It fuels them!
Clement will obviously get the call in September, but my guess is he gets called up in the middle of the year and gets some time here and there...at a point when the season's basically already decided.

Hopefully he gets the call tomorrow.

Trade him.
The think that makes Clement so valuable is that he's a power-hitting catcher. Now that he's improved his defense behind the dish to the point where he could play passibly at the big league level, it makes no sense to push his bat to first, where it would just end up being good-not-great for the position.
Now that the Mariners seem dead-set on going with Oh Joy!jima for the next three seasons and Clement absolutely raking at AAA, I'd see what kind of value he could get in a trade.

Clement is going to be called up very, very soon. Probably by the next homestand.
Bavasi is waiting because if he is called up before May 8, he becomes a free agent a year earlier.
Clement should be the DH.
Also there are rumors that Griffey might be traded after he hits his 600th HR.
I just wonder who we would trade for him and it better not be Balentien.

Interesting. I didn't know about the May 8th caveat...
So if he gets called up after May 8th, when does he become a free agent?

Anyways, if they wait until after the 7th, this year will not "count" as a full year of ML service, which would then delay his FA year until 2014 rather than 2013.
It is called the "Super Two status".
I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it was mentioned in a Seattle blog.
Mclaren also says that we will be seeing Clement and Balentien sooner rather than later.
Help is on the way. Finally.

I'd be more enthusiastic about this if someone other than Bavasi were doing the trading. I can absolutely guarantee that he undervalues Clement and will get ripped off tremendously.

Deadline deals? We almost moved Balentien for Octavio Dotel last year. Who, while better than Rick White, would have been a pointless and costly addition. Any GM who gives serious thought to that type of move can't be trusted to get value back for Clement.
Have we had one trade under Bavasi where we got back better value than we gave up? Broussard comes to mind, but that was totally mitigated by the companion trade of Cabrera for Perez (and that might not even be his name...he was too inconsequential for me to commit his name to memory).
