Marty Wexler III on Barreiro Today

Post#1 » by TheFranchise21 » Wed Apr 25, 2007 7:51 am

From what I heard, Marty is a draft guru, writes his own draft guide and it is VERY detailed. He tests for some of the most intriguing stuff. And then he has this list of players that have a 85% chance of "becoming special" and he mentioned AP, Gaines Adams, and a couple of other players being in that group of "destined to be special players."

Some of the stuff he tests for...

If you've played Madden, you know the QB Pocket Pressure drill where they set up a few JUGS machines and fire footballs at 25mph at the QB as he tries to evade them.

He also tests how long a player can hold onto something while being dragged which tests the players' hand, arm, and upper body strength.

He also has this crazy drill where skill players (QBs, RBs, WRs) wear these special gloves that can shock the player when the person controlling the gloves chooses to do so. They start out at minimal milliamps and work their way up to 20milliamps total (which scientists say is the safest maximum amount of voltage). Apparently, Anthony Gonzalez of OSU was the best at this drill, which tests how well the player can hold onto the ball, and apparently Ted Ginn Jr. let go of the ball after the first shock.

There's also a drill where the QB is blindfolded and makes passes based off of instinct and awareness. Quinn did horribly in this category.

He said Quinn is the most overrated player in this draft. He Quinn did poorly for a QB on the test he gives out (similar to Wonderlic).

Also, there's this crazy thing he does where he implants a chip into draft prospects which is like a GPS chip and it monitors where the players go. This way the players can prove that they stay out of trouble. He says that 72% of NFL prospects elect to do this.

Anyway there's a bunch of more stuff I didn't get a chance to hear or forgot so I highly recommend you listen to this, its very interesting...

And I could be wrong on a lot of those things above, they are pulled from my memory while I was listening in my car.

I don't think this technology exists, so that would be my proof.

A 27 minute parody would be real stupid.

I listened to the guy on the radio, and I remember him last year before draft. He also had personal connections with Foley and a serious distaste for the current vikings mgmt.

We cant find anything on google. But if you got proof I would love to see it.

The reason i could see this being a parody is I have not heard of him anywhere else and if he had all these tests the prospects would say something about him at sometime.

although some of the tests were interesting.

From http://blog.lib.umn.edu/maasx003/Vikings/2005_07.html:

"The Thursday before the draft (4/21) I was listening to the 'Bumper to Bumper' show on KFAN and he had a guest on who was a draft guru of some sort. I believe his name was Marty Wexler III. I have searched that name with no luck, perhaps I'm wrong on his name or spelling. He writes very detailed book every year on the Hdraft, some 900 pages. Ten or so teams actually pay him for his services. As the interview progressed he took some calls, made a few vague comments on some top prospects. One caller asked about Braylon Edwards and if Marty thought he was the best WR in the draft. He flat out said no. He then went onto say that there is one player in this draft that has superstar even Hall of Fame type of talent and intangibles - he said flat out - Troy Williamson, South Carolina. He said he shares many of the same type of characteristics as Johnny Unitas, Brett Favre, Joe Montana, and some others I can't remember. Honestly I was half listening so some of the details escape me. I didn't think much of it until after we picked Troy. I wished I had paid more attention to what it was about Troy that he though made him so special. I even tried to call the station a few weeks later to see if they had any info - they never called me back."

That pre-draft assessment of Williamson should be enough proof that this guy has no connection to reality.

My powers are useless in this poor excuse for a professional MN sports team forum. The Twins or Timberwolves forum is the epitome of sports forum greatness.

I don't even know why I venture into these lands of Cedric Griffin groupies and Laurence Maroney jock strap collectors.

I have shamed myself and all that I represent by entering this stinkhole. I will not return to this forum until after the draft is over.
