NFL looking closely at expanding to 17 games

NEW YORK (AP) -- Americans always seem to want more pro football. Yet it's the folks abroad who might be getting an extra taste of the NFL in the future.

Although talks are extremely preliminary, the NFL is investigating adding a 17th regular-season game and playing it outside the United States. The extra game would take the place of one in the preseason, allowing every team to play once abroad without sacrificing a home match.

This year, the Dolphins gave up a home date in Miami to play the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium in London. Two years ago, the Arizona Cardinals played a home game in Mexico City against the San Francisco 49ers.

Can't see the NFLPA make this one go over smoothly.

That would be pretty cool for people around the world but I dunno if the players would agree to it

And they will have a football game on Wembley? Soccer fans won't be happy.

I don't like it.

It will tarnish records & it's stupid.

It's hard enough to stay healthy for 16 games, why not add another? I really hope this doesn't happen.

I agree, I don't like the idea, but this was probably the same thought process when the NFL season was 14 games.

It will give even less meaning to a 1000 yard rusher

The NFL just seems determined to have a international impact. This would be pretty extreme to do so though. Having your league play 1/17th of its game in other country? For what purpse?

Yay for rushing 60 Yards a game and getting 1000+ Yards!

Honestly... this is a bit stupid. Although I would like to watch a game here in Canada, the 16-games schedule is perfect right now, along with the 32-team league... I don't see why they want to mess that up for the time being.

really they should go the CFL route and only play 2 pre-season games and 18 regular season games.

It's already not a good "meaning." 1000 yards rushing in a season isn't a great accomplishment by any means. All you have to do is rush for 60+ a game and you will reach 1000.

That being said, I don't think this is a good idea..

As much as the NFL is loved here, foreign countries dont give two **** about it. They've accepted basketball because it is a very simple sport in which everyone can afford to play. If they want to brawl in football, they would rather box. Football will never survive overseas.
