it is reported that the raiders offered russell 6 years 60 million and around 30 million guaranteed. however, russell and his agent wants more..

so is this the fault of the raiders office and owner or is jamarcus russell being a dick?

I'd say both.

Like randomhero said the Raiders should've offered the money before the draft. And Russell's being a dick because he hasn't even played a down and he's already commanding this much money.

Thats a very good point. Theres a reason that the team with the #1 pick has exclusive negotiating rights with anyone before the draft, so **** like this doesnt happen.

Russell is kind of being a dick but I read somewhere that what hes asking for is something Alex Smith got before him and its kind of hard to argue with a precedent that was set in these situations.

i thought it was he wasnt getting more guaranteed than alex smith. and he probably should get more money, not b/c he'll necessarily be better but because the money usually increases every year.

and im not that surprised that they're having trouble they kept the secret of who they were picking for a while so they probably didnt negotatiate much before the draft.

yeah pretty much he is asking to recieve payment on par with the last couple of #1 picks with the increase that usually goes up from year to year so I wouldn't say so much russell us the problem. Although the longer this plays out he will take full blame and end up hurting himself by missing games.

30 million gauranteed is by no means chump change but since the NFL contracts give more power to the teams than the players I guess its best that he if somewhat comfortable with what he gets in case of injury.

It's funny he's holding out so long because one of the big knocks I heard on Russell pre-draft was that he was a guy who a lot of people thought would get complacent (read: lazy and fat) once he got paid.

Think for a minute exactly what he's asking for--$30M+ guaranteed, with voidables and jokes for incentives that would net him close to $50M in the next 4 years. I heard this from Shannon Sharpe on Sirius NFL Radio today: you have to add the last 22 years of Raiders starting QB salaries to equal that amount of money. It would make him the 2nd highest paid Raider, and his guaranteed $$ would be more than the rest of the entire offense, minus Robert Gallery, have guaranteed combined and doubled.

This is one of the main things that I don't like in the NFL. While the NBA CBA is far from perfect, the NFL rookie payscale is absolutely out of control.

I don't understand why the Raiders even drafted JaMarcus.
They should have drafted a guy like Calvin Johnson.

Not really. I would say judging by the amount of money that they actually receive, and the judging by how much a NFL Broadcasting Contract + other sources of income are worth, the payment structure in the NFL is a lot better, as it grows with the NFL's financial growth.

I feel bad that they have the worst owner in football. I also feel bad they can't run a franchise. They should've had some understanding of a contract on the table before they ever drafted Russell, now they risk having wasted a draft pick if he never signs, which is looking more and more likely as each day passes.
