Bears agree to terms with QB Hill

The Sun-Times has learned that Southern Illinois quarterback Nick Hill has agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the Bears.

Hill chose the Bears over five other offers.

The Bears have also agreed to terms on a free-agent deal with Western Kentucky wide receiver Curtis Hamilton.

Both players made free-agent visits to the Bears. Hill will be only the third quarterback on the roster.

Didn't Paul Smith (Tulsa) go undrafted ? We should be giving this guy a call.

Angelo must've really thought highly of the QBs in this draft to just wait and sign an undrafted FA.

True dat. We've got some people going nuts that we ignored the QB position and we're stuck with Rex and Neckbeard but maybe...just maybe...Angelo didn't see any of the QBs in this draft as the answer. Looking at the names, it WAS a pretty darn weak class overall at QB.

I dont think any of them are great, but Andre Woodson was worth a 6th rd pick. When Flacco went 18th I didnt want to waste a pick on a QB.

Bringing Leak back wouldn't be a bad idea. He looked pretty sharp in pre eason last year, and could be serviceable as a third stringer or practice squad guy.

This post reminded me of Ryan Leaf.

Talk about quarterback busts. The Chargers are still sour that they didn't get Peyton. Thats why they traded Eli.

Ok the last part is personal speculation.

Cliff Levingston was calling for Booty in the 5th round but we passed on him. So big deal though cause it's not like we're going to find a QB in the later rounds that's going to legitimately jump both Orton and Grossman... as bad as both can be sometimes.

If both Grossman and Orton suck again this year, we'll probably have a good enough pick to get a QB in the first round next year.

I didn't want to draft a QB to possibly compete with Orton and Grossman this year. I wanted to find a guy to start grooming. Now when/if Grossman and Orton fail, we have to sign some other veteran to hold the place for our eventual replacement. You take a flyer on a guy now, you can start to develop him while you let Orton and Grossman compete in the meantime. Now thats basically a lost year of development.

That being said, maybe our offense suffers again and we finally dump Turner and bring in a real offensive coordinator and a QB to start fresh.

lol. I chuckle because a lot of Bear fans have been calling for Turner's head for a long time.

Another great point.

NOTE: I do not encourage rooting for failure to simply replace our weaknesses.
