Leaf Prospects at the World Championships

Post#1 » by Crowned » Thu May 3, 2007 7:59 pm

I've been impressed with Kulemin's play at the World Championships. After 3 games, here are his stats:

3 GP, 2 goals, 1 assist, 3 points, +2

Anton Stralman's stats:

4 GP, 1 goal, 0 assists, 1 point, +1

They have both won a player of the game award and Stralman scored a great goal in the last game.

Roman Kukumberg is on the Slovakia team and he is also a prospect.

Russia and Sweden are currently tied at two after 2 periods. Steen scored the tying goal and the winner gets 1st place in their division.

But the avid fans at Khodynka Arena wouldn't have to wait long to cheer. With 2:21 left in the first, Russia was awarded a penalty shot when Anton Stralman tripped Alexander Kharitonov on a breakaway. Alexei Morozov was chosen to take the shot, and he calmly skated in and deked to the backhand before lifting the puck to the inside of the crossbar and into the net past Swedish goalie Erik Ersberg for a 1-1 game.

Stralman was inches away from redeeming himself in the first minute of the middle frame when he had a shot hit the post and Eremenko's back before falling to the goal line. However, Alexei Emelin swiped it out of harm's way just in the nick of time.

I watched Stralman during the Slovakia game and I was not impressed with him at all to be honest. Canada is playing Sweden tomorrow at 11:00 am on TSN and you guys should tune in and check him out while cheering on Canada.

I was actually pretty impressed with him from what I saw. He logged some heavy minutes against the Russians, and played well for the most part. He's still a prospect, and to hold his own against guys like Malkin, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk and Frolov during times throughout the game still intrigues me.
