Sasha Vujacic wants $5.8 million a year

Post#1 » by Lakersfan23 » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:45 pm

It's believed that Vujacic's representative will be seeking the full mid-level exception of $5.8 million. "I'm going to be with the team that wants and needs me the most," Vujacic said. "Who it's going to be, I can't say right now at this point. But we'll see."

Because the Lakers will be in luxury tax hell for the next decade, Jerry Buss will essentially be comitting $11.6 million (double-tax) a year for Sasha's services...

I love what Sasha brought but at $11.6 million a year, let me be the first to show you the door, Sasha.

Aw crap....he'd better bring that asking price down or else he'll just fade away into overpaid obscurity.

11.6? SIIIKE!! That's what Odom makes.

If you can rebound, score, pass and assist. Then fine.

But you're a pure shooter and defender.

But hey, in reality 5 million from him is better than 5 million from crappy ass Walton.

Not his fault we're over the luxury tax. The full MLE is a reasonable amount for an elite 3-point shooter who likes to play defense. Maybe he won't get exactly that, but he should get pretty close to it.

But that's what happens when you're in the red. How about Odom at 25+ mil a year? Same with Bynum. Gotta double every addition once you're over the luxury threshold.

This is why most teams shy away from the luxury tax - any amount of it. It can be crippling for management.

Kinda unfair to single these guys out, we have to look back and see how we got here. Kobe? Big contract, but that's to be expected. Pau? Core. Odom...?

Odom conveniently expires next season, which is why I fear it's a significant possibility that he's let go for nothing.

Moving Radmanovic and/or Walton would help, but it might be tough to move those guys right now. Unless, of course, the Lakers add a young cheap prospect like Farmar to the package.

Some hearts will most likely be broken.

Or, Buss could surprise everybody and keep the entire team together. Considering that Bynum's big extension looms, I kinda doubt it, but we'll find out soon enough.

It's not just the dollars, you know he's going to want 4-6 yrs too. Then he's unmovable with that kind of lengthof contract ala Luke/Vlad

We have a core of Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, and whoever we get for Odom. We can only afford cheap bench players. A 3 year $9 million contract each for Sasha and Turiaf. If Sasha wants that much money then it's best to let him go. He had 1 good game in the finals and he wants that much?

There was a recent column by a Yahoo writer who covered the Spurs for about 10 years that stated San Antonio would likely take a run at Sasha for close to the full MLE, at the very least to drive up his price. If I'm Sasha, looking at Walton and Radmanovic stealing $5 million-plus per season, no way I'm asking for a cent less. It all depends on what he can get elsewhere, but those awful contracts set a precedent in relation to his future with the Lakers.

I think I read this in the LA TImes a couple of days ago they said that Kapono is probably the example contract that people would be looking at when trying to sign Sasha now Kapono got a 4yr 24 million dollar contract I don't think that is a bad of a contract to give to Sasha to resign him. I really doubt he'll get the big 6yr contract that Walton got because Walton was starting quite regularly before he signed that contract I really doubt Sasha will ever become a consistent starter in the NBA. So I really don't think this is the end of Sasha in LA.

The reason why I don't agree with signing him at 5.8 mil aside from luxury tax purposes is that he only had one good year. We've already been burned by Walton's contract, the Lakers front office shouldn't make the same mistake again.

why are you people still taking 5.8 mil seriously? Sasha didn't say that the OP did. lol

anyway I just heard an interview with him on the radio and he said he will be back with the Lakers next year. he said he wants to be back and he said the Lakers told him they want him back.

Stop bringing your foolishness into my threads.

Do you even know how restricted free agency works? Its not like Ariza's player option where he just opts back with the team.

As soon as the free agency period beginss, any NBA team can offer Sasha the MLE of $5.8 million a year. The Lakers can then MATCH this offer because he is their restricted FA. They can also choose to not match, and then Sasha goes to the other team.

I'm willing to bet that some NBA team out there (Spurs, Heat, Suns) will throw out that MLE $5.8 million a year offer sheet, forcing the Lakers to match. Buss will then have to decide if he wants Sasha at $11.6 million a year (double luxury tax) with 10% pay increases.

With the rumors that the Lakers will spend their full MLE on someone else, they also have to sign Turiaf and then Ariza just opted back. With the luxury tax, they have just added $37 million ($11.6 million + $11.6 million + $8 million + $6 million) to their already luxury-taxed $75 million payroll.

Something's gotta give, Buss isn't paying $112 million next year for the same roster as this year, plus an MLE signing.
