Mayo/Jefferson the Next Kobe/Shaq? w/o the effect hmm..

Post#1 » by banks336 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 1:03 am

Foye,Mayo,Jefferson, would be the best young big three that I've ever seen in years....People say gerald green & bassy are young with a lot of potential, Mayo is actually YOUNGER and more polished than both Green & Bassy while Al is older than bassy by about 5 months....

This is how I see it, Mayo & Al will be like how Kobe & Shaq were thier 1st few years together(Not exactly the same impact though)..

"Shaq played in the nba for 4 seasons(Al played 4 years of nba ball) then teamed up with kobe for his 5th year to average _ 38mins. 26pts 12rbs 3ast_ (Al had 35mins. 21pts 11rbs 1.4ast so it's possible for him to put up #'s similar to what Shaq had that year)

Kobe played in 79 games his 2nd season and had _15.4pts 3.1rbs 2.5ast .9stls_ (Those #'s will be very close to what OJ Mayo will have his rookie year.)"

All in all this is a RARE/SCARY 2 man tandem that's about to be/could be put together especially since both are at a very young age & Foye will only make them better along with brewer being Mayo's sidekick ala Jordan/Pippen.... In a few years we might be talking championship????

That's a good comparison, but we all know Roy/Oden are the next Kobe/Shaq...

^^^To OdenRoyLMA2, the OP said "not exactly the same impact though"

Seriously, I can definitely see the numbers coming up similar to Kobe/Shaq, and you're right that Al n OJ would likely never match the impact (greatness/dominance) of the Kobe/Shaq duo.

Nonetheless, I'm excited to see what Al, OJ, and the rest of the Wolves could potentially do given a few years in the league.

I think Foye would be IDEAL with Mayo and Al. Now keep in mind I'm just comparing team roles, and not even necessarily talent or playing style, but to compare to Boston, Foye would be our Ray Allen. He would be the 3rd star that produces at a pretty high level and occasionally has a HUGE game to keep the other team on their toes.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

Yeah, that's what I was implying.

You're nuts if you think Al/Mayo = Shaq/Kobe. Get real. And the "Foye,Mayo,Jefferson, would be the best young big three that I've ever seen in years" statement almost made me fall out of my chair laughing. I bottled up my criticism until someone brought up the Blazers, which I knew would happen.

He was simply pointing out a coincidence that Shaq and Al had 4 years of experience before getting a promising young rookie (there's no guarantee OJ will be in a Wolves uni next season), and that Al's NUMBERS COULD be similar to Shaq's as well as Mayo's NUMBERS being similar to Kobe's. Again, he said "not exactly the same impact though" when comparing Mayo/Al to Kobe/Shaq. Al will more than likely never match the dominance Shaq displayed all throughout his career and Mayo will more than likely never reach the status of "greatest player in the world" as Kobe has.

I assume you find the "best young big three" statement funny because the Blazers have Oden, Roy, and LMA. And that's your opinion and there is no problem with it. But there's no reason to come to this board to criticize the opinion of others without any real insight. If anyone needs to get real, its you, OdenRoyLMA2. Stop trolling..

I've never posted on this board before. I was just scrolling through teams forums when I saw this thread (can't help it with a title like that) and thought it was too far beyond ridiculous to not respond.

I am willing to bet that Jefferson never puts up Shaq's numbers, let alone sniff his impact. Same goes for Mayo and Kobe. And IF (just rhetorically) he puts up Shaq-like number (say 30/15/4/4) how would he not have the same impact? Either or, the chances of it happening are slim to none.

And I've never said a thing about the Blazers here, have I? I simply find this post laughable, and I'm sure teams of many other fan bases would as well.

Haha, nice try. I have been a Blazer fan since before the Wolves even existed. And I have been reading RealGM for a long time, but finally had my account accepted last week.

Haha. Im sure.

Anyways, the chances of Mayo/Jefferson becoming Kobe and Shaq are about as good as Lamarcus Aldridge becoming a superstar and a top 5 PF in a few years like someone here claims.

So what is it about Portland that breeds all these trolls? We don't get a lot of trolls, but it seems like nearly all of them come from Portland.

Please, I'm not a troll. But maybe it has something to with the Minnesota fans constantly trying to compete with us? Foye-Roy this, Foye-Roy that. Talking about how every player on your team will eventually be better than ours etc....

It seems like YOU are the ones that are constantly trying to start stuff with US. I've never thought of Minny as a rival before this season, but look at your Gamethreads from last seasons Blazers vs. Wolves games. Funny stuff.

1. OP just said Shaq's #'s for one particular year. (26 ppg/12rpg/3apg) *Attainable for Al imo.
2. You are right about Jefferson not being able to sniff Shaq's impact.
3. ^ Same with Mayo/Kobe
4. #'s aren't everything. I'm sure you are familiar with Zach Randolph. Zach Randolph puts up similar numbers to Al Jefferson but isn't half the player, imo. Al Jefferson can grow and reach #'s similar to Shaq's (in the year banks336 stated) but still not have the same impact as Shaq (as very few if any players ever have or ever will).
5. Well, the rest of my response to your response doesn't really pertain to Wolves related basketball, so I'll let it go. And I'm sure you've pissed off some Wolves fans in the time I've generated my response making this post out of place...

Actually, every little bit of that comes from a Portland fan. Everytime Foye's name is brought up it seems as someone from the Portland board has to come and drop their 2 cents in about how badly we screwed up. Dont believe me? Who was the first response to this thread from? Oh, right, someone from Portland.

The only reason we compare ourselves to you is that we are both young up-and-coming squads. If Memphis or Philly was in our division, trust me when I say it would be the exact same situation, and you people would still be in here with your "Roy>>>" crap. I actually like where Portland is headed, and I have nothing but respect for the players, the organization and SOME of the fans that arent complete idiots. I just dont like how every sports caster in America is so quick to get on their knees for Oden or Roy and so quick to forget we have a team.

You deserve your respect, we are just looking for ours. If you dont like that or have nothing of intelligence to say, please just return to your own board where you can PM everyone their that you went and "son'd" all the posters on the 'Sota board

Good day sir.
