Sonics-Bobcats trade?

Post#1 » by nwsports253 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 3:14 am

I dont know if anyone else was listening to KJR when David Locke was on but he said something about the Bobcats might try and trade up to get Love or Lopez. He said that we could end up trading the 4th pick for picks 9 and 20. I dont know if this is just a idea he came up with or if its a deal the teams may have talked about.

He also talked about Portland buying the 27th pick from the Hornets. He said that with that happening we're going to have to use our 24th pick on the guy that we were going to pick at #32 because Portland is going to take the guy we have slotted at #32. I'm not sure that I believe that I think Portland will end up taking Ante Tomic at 27 and we can still pick whoever we have sloted at #32 at 32.

The Sonics don't seem to be the match to this rumored quest. The Bobcats also are rumored to like Westbrook. #9 and #20 might get you to #7, but I don't see why Presti would trade #4. We don't need more first round picks.

At #7, it seems one of Love, Lopez or Westbrook would be available.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I've read on Bobcats boards that they might take Hibbert and team him with Okafor.

From Chad Ford's latest look at the draft where he projects multiple teams that are looking at the same player there is some crossover between the Sonics at #24 and the Blazers at #27.

Serge Ibaka, Nicolas Batum, Ante Tomic, D.J. White and Omer Asik are all listed as desired by both Portland and Seattle in that range. I like that Seattle drafts first in round 1 and round 2, so theoretically they should be able to get the player(s) they want

I have a feeling it could be Batum at 24, hes slipped really far in most mocks because of his health scare. Would Presti pass up a guy with that my potential if he falls to us? Ibaka would be a nice pick too but he will be overseas for atleast one or two more seasons.

I think Ford has it right in his review of Batum. Some teams like him and some hate him. In the end it will depend on how Presti feels and who else is available. Personally I'm not real fond of athletic guys, with great skill sets who show little ability to play the game of basketball, it's just so frustrating to watch and you never stop hoping he'll get it some day.

So supposedly Charlotte likes Lopez at #9, then Seattle is reportedly taking Lopez at #4, and now they are reportedly talking about trading #4 and #9?

Nice conspiracy theory! Taking it the next step further...

Sonics trade #4 to Charlotte for #9 & #20.
Sonics trade #20 & #24 to Suns for #15.

Sonics add Westbrook & Rush. And a big at #32 (DJ White?). That works.

If Presti really does a trade like this then he's probably really liking Russell Westbrook or even DJ Augustin(you never know if Westbrook will be there at #9) and has a plan to do something else with those two late first rounders.

Though, i'm not a huge fan of trading down from #4 to #9.
