when do we find out if we get any help with his salary on the cap. I remember if he retired we get it back, but is he still trying to come back? If we could convince him to retire, could we trade his "expiring" contract to indiana for jamal tinsley?

Last I heard of him, I believe he said he'd try to make another comeback this year.

The problem is that there's a one year period following the medical retirement. If Speedy plays some games and retire, the one year period will end during the 2009/10 season, but ATL will be able to not count his salary in the this season. Meanwhile, I am afraid of one thing, his salry would still be there come to July next summer, so counting against the cap at the moment we need some room (not specially to directly sign F.A. but to give owners some money top spend on the MLE).
Maybe we still have a chance: Speedy retiring before F.A. market is open, but as it appears he want to try one more time, it won't happen, so we will certainly only get relief at the end of 2009/10.
Now, if a team want cap relief for 2010 summer, and has a long contract to offer, it could work, but is it better to gamble on a player not wanting by his team anymore with still 3 or 4 years, or wait two years and spend the same amount of last Speedy's last year on the MLE and choosing a F.A. ?
At least, Speedy will be expiring next year.
