James Posey

Post#1 » by Palmeirense » Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:44 am

I was wondering, maybe we could drop the full MLE (or a good chunk of it) to sign him, since after the trade we are kind of thin at the SF position, and plus we could use his excelent outside shooting and defense.

He has a player option.

Do you guys think this is possible?

We would have a good starting 5 in Harris/Carter/Posey/Boone (Yi)/Lopez

EDIT: I just read that Posey indeed is opting out of his contract

So the possibility is definitely there.

Do you guys think it's worth it? in page 4 some dude says that the Nets offered him more than Boston did.

1. Boston wants Posey back.
2. Even if he goes elsewhere, Posey is not going from 60 wins to 20.
3. The Nets are under the cap and hence don't get a mid level exception.

1-Sure they do,but i don't know if they are able to match some of the offers he may get
2-Posey wants money, otherwise he wouldn't even opt out of his contract in the first place.Plus, you exaggerated about the 20 wins thing.THIS IS THE EAST,NJ will most likely make the playoffs
3- We wouldn't be under the cap if we signed him, since we also have to sign our rookies,so it's possible.

Anyway,i just think it makes sense, what do you think from a team perspective,do you think he would do well in here?

As loyal of a fan as I am...this roster is not a playoff team. Even with adding Posey, we're still not a playoff team. When you're a guy his age and his caliber, you have 2 things that rule your decision making:

1. where can you get another ring
2. where can you get the biggest contract

Honestly, it's in the order too. He'll make a list of all the teams that want him, throw out the rebuilding efforts unless they offer something really stupid (which rules out the nets) then weed the list down to a) where he'll get playing time, b) where he has a good chance for a ring and c) where he feels he'll get the salary he deserves. Any team on the list that pays him what he feels he deserves will win his services.

I disagree. Yes, the Nets are rebuilding but signing a veteran to help us is not out of the picture yet. Based on the reports, the team will try to win it all to get into the playoffs every year so by 2010, when it's time for the big FA market, our team will be decent enough to lure LBJ that he is all we need to win it all. Getting the 8th seed will still be very helpful, just to show that we are still commited and a winning team.

I don't think the Nets are going to be the under the cap. Remember that 1.) Krstic's cap hold is about $3 mil more than his 1-year tender offer and 2.) The cost of the draft picks will also count on the cap.

That said, Posey to NJ isn't going to happen since he'll get a bigger contract (since I can't see the Nets giving him more than 2 years) from a much better team.

Yeah with our cap holds we actually do get the MLE this season.
