Pacers/ Bobcats

Post#1 » by Crossova21 » Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:28 pm

Like to start off by saying that I didn't come up with these trades and couldn't prove if they worked in TradeChecker.

If we still manage to get Augustin, that'd be amazing. I'd taking a rookie scale contact over Ford's $8M any day. I was kind of wondering why Charlotte would take Augustin over, say, Bayless.

So I'l speculate now: Ford, Shawne Williams, and Hibbert for Augustin, Alexis Aijina, and Adam Morrison. All of the picks would have to sign their rookie contracts. They get Ford, who they apparently wanted, the offensive post presence they desparately need to free up Gerald Wallace, and get rid of Morrison who's disappointed them. We get Augustin, who we apparently wanted, Aijina is a good defensive 7fter who nbadraft.net compares to jonathan bender, and we get rid of Williams. If we can get them to throw in Kyle Weaver for JT or Daniels, all the better.

TJ Ford, Roy Hibbert, and Mike Dunleavy Jr for DJ Augustin, Adam Morrison and either Gerald Wallace or Emeka Okafor. Morrison and Okafor haven't lived up to expectations, and Okafor's asking for alot of money (LeMarcus Aldrige money, 5yr
$55M). They get Ford, Hibbert plays offense and defense in the half-court the Bobcats run, and Mike D can play SF with Jason Richardson at SG. With either Wallace or Okafor, we get the post presence we need and a player that can run up and down the court, the PG we wanted in Augustin, and a 3pt specialist in Morrison.

Just wanted to know what you guys thought about these trades. I personally would LOVE to see Augustin paired up with Granger. Kinda see them as the Pacers 1-2 punch of the future.

The first trade is awful for the Pacers, just awful. The second one is good if its Emeka Okafor, which the Bobcats would not too, if its Gerald Wallace, then its awful for the Pacers.

Absolutely not.

the second trade would be awesome. we get rid of dunleavy. we get okafor. that is a huge upgrade. also, dj is really good and adam morrison is who bird wanted in the draft a few years ago. i hope bird would do this but, then again, this is the pacers we are talking about and they always make dumb moves.

I'd be more interested in Felton anyway.

I'm just going to end this now. O'Brien said that we didn't want DJ Augustin. He said that the Portland deal that landed us Rush was prearranged if Augustin or Bayless fell to us. He said that neither one of those players seemed like they would be able to fit and adjust to his system. It's unfortunate because I loved both of those players, but I can't imagine the Pacers would trade for a player they said didn't fit into our system.

Morrison seems like he's just not going to make it in the NBA. I'd rather have Dunleavy than Morrison.

These trades are rediculas, we're not gonna turn around and trade TJ right now for a rookie. Who ever posted those trades must just have a man crush on DJ Augustin.

The first is horrible. Ford may not be a great contract, but he's a proven NBA player. The only way I can see Augustin being better than Ford is if Ford gets injured, and we have 80% insurance. I've certainly missed on guessing how a lot of players will pan out, but Augustin is one that I like less every time I look at him. To be honest I see him as TJ Ford minus a little size and a lot of defensive ability. He would have been a great pick maybe as high as 12, but not good enough to give up a guy who is really his best case scenario for. Hibbert for Aijina is silliness. I'm not going to say that Hibbert is going to be a Hall of Famer, but I will say that last year I was elated that he stayed in school because we had no shot of him, and his play this year made me shy off him a bit, but I'd take him 11 times out of 10 with the 17th pick, and I'd burn down Conseco Fieldhouse with count if we'd trade him for Aijinca. Morrison is certainly better than Williams, but unless you're going to look at the game he played against the Pacers when he put up 35 he's just not a huge upgrade, and even if he was he's not good enough to beat out Granger for the starting spot so we're trading our only proven PG and a C who could be starting for us by the end of the year (if not earlier) to upgrade a position that we're drowning in depth at already.

The second deal is a lot better, but still has a lot of the same problems. To clarify, if it were straight up I would trade Ford for Augustin straight up right now. I don't think Augustin will be as good, but I don't see him being so much worse that it wouldn't be worth cutting the salary for. That would be what I saw it as though - risking a small downgrade in talent to save big bucks. Moving Dunleavy Jr. for Wallace is about as lateral a move as you'll get. Wallace is going to want the kind of money Jr. makes, and their numbers are going to be about the same...I just don't think Wallace is quite as good from the 3-point line and he's a much better defender. The problem is that Jr. can play the 2 and I don't know if Wallace can. I could be wrong because I don't follow the Bobcats too much, but isn't he more a 3/4 than a 2/3? I guess this might be advantageous to allow Rush more minutes and have a better second option at the 4, so if he is a 3/4 I'll come off my lateral move comment and give the advantage to Wallace. If that's the case, though, trading Williams for Emeka becomes that much less advantageous. I'm not even going to go into how much better Emeka would be for us than Williams because it's silly how much we would improve. The reason this deal could never happen is that the only reason the Bobcats would trade Wallace or Emeka would be because they both want huge extensions with lots of money. We've just fixed the problem we got when we gave JO that kind of money, and the reason a lot of us like this deal is that it gets rid of another ridiculous contract. We've still got Murphy, though, and if Emeka didn't turn into Dwight Howard overnight we'd have three horrible contracts that nobody wanted. Beyond that, Wallace or Emeka would have to sign a new contract before this trade would work...Dunleavy and Ford together make too much.

Are we even allowed to trade TJ so soon? I thought there was a decent amount of time that had to pass before you were allowed to trade a player who had just been traded...count, what's the CBA say on that one?

You can trade him by himself immediately, but you have to wait two months before you can trade him in a package with other players.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

I see...so neither of these trades would work for two months anyways, at which time I expect either TJ will be injured or Wallace/Emeka will be traded or will have signed ridiculous contracts.

I wouldn't do these trades. I like Ford in a pacers uni and wouldn't trade him right away.

Pacers have already decided that they wanted Ford and Jack over the rookies. had they felt otherwise, they would have been dealing differently on draft night. they got the guys they wanted. if you want to propose additional trades, you'll have to build them around Tinsley, Quis, and Shawne.
