His numbers have improved over the last month or so averaging nearly .280 during that stretch. He's great defensively too...always a plus.
Greene is a better option, but there are two problems...one, the Padres (33-53, worst team in MLB) have no use for Burnett this year. And if they want him for Greene, that means that they clearly value what he can bring in free agency more than they value his production. And that means that the Jays, too, should value Burnett more that Greene.
The problem is that none of the contenders have a good shortstop prospect whose worth exceeds that of Burnett. The only names I've heard on any of the Jays sites that make some sense are Jed Lowrie (24 year old Red Sox farm hand who profiles to have decent pop and good OBP/fielding at the ML level) and Chin-Lung Hu (24 year old Dodgers farm hand who made every All-Star team possible since entering the pro system, showed great power/average while rarely walking in '07, but has sucked out loud this year). If those are the guys on the table I would consider it, but not for any current ML shortstops, within reason.
