GO EAST Young Man!!

Post#1 » by magicfan4life05 » Wed Jul 9, 2008 3:29 am

Seriously whats up with this movement of west stars going to the east coast?

I was watching Sportscenter and Bucher reported one of the things Brand liked about Philly was going east and the style of play 'grind it out' games where he would excel in...so

Going back to last year

Joe Johnson (ok more like 3 years ago)
Kevin Garnett
Ray Allen
Rashard Lewis
Zach Randolph (ehh not a star but above average player)
Jason Richardson
Mike Dunleavy (not a 'star' but really good player)
Shawn Marion to east ( for aging shaq)
Mike Bibby (yeah he did suck but he's still good....maybe? :/ )

Now Elton Brand
who else?

Has this done anything to the east landscape with regards to east vs. west balance (jv vs. varisty) argument?

Sixers will be alright. They need to make a few more moves to be contenders.

They realize it's far easier winning in the east than that jungle called the western conference.

Since the break-up of the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 1998, the Western Conference has dominated the NBA, winning 7 of 10 championships. Gotta love sample size.

Fixed.

As for Dunleavy, S-Jax (who's much better) went the other way in that deal.

May have been more balance in the west, but the East dominated the West best in the Finals, and have won 3 of the last five rings. The west may have had better overall teams, yet the East has had the best team, and I am sorry, the Cetlics and Pistons were the two best teams last season.

And Im tired of the crying how the top 16 teams regardless of conference should make the playoffs(Don Nelson). Balance shifts..and if you want proof, go look at the mid 90's east vs west, especially the 96-97 East vs West..

Not to mention, the west has gotten weaker this off season, and the east stronger. And past dominate west teams are going to lose a step, Spurs, Suns and Mavs.. and to be honest, wouldnt be surprised to see Denver in the lottery..

Bulls, Heat, Sixers, Raptors, Bucks have all improved ALOT and the off season is just getting started..

Well Since the breakup of the Shaq Lakers, only 1 Western Conference team has won it all: the Spurs who won it three times. Three different Eastern Conference teams have won the title. So on any given year the west maybe deeper, but the only team that has proven to be better than the best Eastern conference team is the Spurs.

Oh if you go back to 1975 both conferences have won an equal amount of titles (and it is really pretty even, they split the last 18, 22, ect..).

All the East teams have won it by going out and getting West Coast players. Miami with Shaq, Detroit with Rasheed. Boston with KG and Allen.

How can you say these star player's are wanting to go east, when most of the guy's on your list were traded, last time I checked most player's did choose when and where they were traded(little different with KG). I'm sure Richardson wasn't to happy with his trade, and it seemed to me Joe went for the chance at a monster contract, and being the man on his own team, not because he was going east, Brand chose to, but for the most part the guy's on your list were traded, not willfully moveing east, but being sent there buy they're former team.

The West is still a lot harder. The disparity between the two conferences is beginning to balance out though. But for free agents, it's definitely more convenient to move East. You have an easier road to the Finals and a better chance at getting the top seed in the playoffs.
