Clipps Plan to S&T Mags for a PF

Even as the possibility of losing Brand grew increasingly apparent Tuesday when the 76ers traded forwards Rodney Carney, Calvin Booth and a future No. 1 pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves to clear cap space for Brand, the Clippers planned a scenario to sign and trade Maggette with the hopes of acquiring a power forward, said NBA sources who weren't authorized to comment about personnel matters.

after a bizarre turn of events (brand leaving for philly, mags to the warriors and baron's signing still up in the air, the clipps find themselves really f*cked up....

with a S&T for maggette open, anybody think cubes jumps out there and offers bass and stack?

here's the scenario... we deal bass and stack for maggette... sign singleton... and S&T diop for george and jones...

C- dampier / diop / pops
PF- dirk / singleton / pops
SF- maggette / green / r.terry
SG- howard / wright / foster
PG- kidd / jet / barea

and we still keep the MLE for somebody else... azibuke maybe?

Who exactly did we S&T to get Diop here? If we don't then Diop is our MLE addition.

Mags wanted the money (thank goodness, whew!) - just think - he could have been on the freaking Spurs! Now, the Spurs don't have him! But neither do we...

6 of one half a dozen of the other...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Clips are having one of the worst offseasons of all time.

I would not mind trying to get into a deal with Maggette before the ink hits the contract with GSW. We probably have to overpay but with Diop getting his MLE deal, that doesn't appear to be a problem.
Stack, Jones, Bass cash and the rights to some of our younger players (RET, Seibutus, Foster) should probably entice a deal. If not, throw a pick out there.

The question is whether Maggette desires to be in Dallas or whether the Clipps feel that they can get something better with the space opened up by losing Brand and Maggette.

But nothing is done until it gets signed. For example, if Davis gets cold feet about the Clipps then GSW may not have the cap space to sign Maggette until they renounce Davis. It's close, but I don't think they quite make it as long as they have the FA holds on Davis, O'Bryant, and Barnes.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

I dunno: Diop with the MLE, Gerald Green, Re-sign your 3rd string PG for 3 years, sign James Singleton to a guaranteed contract. I wonder if on the Clipper board they are saying the same thing about us?

At least they have cap room! We don't.

well NJ did not want to sign and trade. we need Diop, what else you wanna do? Plus he's cheap for a 26 year old center that you hope will take over as the starter and who may keep improving and will now have a coach who holds nothing against him.

Gerald Green is a good signing. The guy has the talent but he needs to find it. Maybe Carlisle and Kidd help him. He is motivated and has something to prove to the league. I hungry, young, athletic player with untapped potential for a one year contract at a the vet's minimum? what the hell is so bad about that signing? He has been working with John Lucas during the offseason to turn things around. He's been humbled and now knows he has to work for it.

Barea...eh not thrilling and I'm not all on his jock like some people may be, but at least its like $5 mill total.

Singleton? At least he played well in Europe and has a little NBA experience. he could be the next Bass. Maybe the Mavs have already seen enough of him in this short time to offer him a contract.

I know we want the sexy signings and trades, but those just won't be coming and are available only to a precious few teams. We just need quality, young, hungry role players..kinda like what the Lakers have. Our core, IMO, is still formidable if JHo returns to form, which i'm counting on him to do. Dirk will be Dirk, and probably better than ever with a full year of a running Kidd. We know what we *should* get from Terry. If Kidd is healthy, i think we'll get a 9-8-9 type of year. Throw in a bench with guys who actually still have the physical abilities to contribute and I think we'll have a team playing for 1st round homecourt advantage.
