LAC - MIN .. Work in Progress

This deal isn't done, because the value doesn't work out right. It needs an addition from us, or from a third team, but since I need to run, I'll throw it up here and give you guys a chance to improve it:

MIN GETS: Tim Thomas + Brevin Knight

LAC GETS: Brian Cardinal (+ UTA Pick?)

Its too much production for LAC to lose, but the idea here is that by pushing the 125% + $100,000 cap match, LAC clears $1.35 mil, and can make a max offer to Josh Smith that would match one from GSW and ATL, to take over for Brand. Tim Thomas has negative value on his two-year deal, but like Jaric for us, he helps a little -- Cardinal would not help much at all.

The UTA pick isn't what LAC needs if they are going to continue to try to be "win-now" either, but since Cardinal was just traded, he can't be combined with another player. This could probably use another team and (gasp) this deal would have worked better for LAC with Jaric than Cardinal.

Anyway, this would give LAC cap space, and it'd give it to them TODAY, since Josh Smith probably will have signed a contract somewhere in the next 48 hours.

I'm not sure if this does anything for me. I like Brevin Knight, but think the 1st rounder should be used for a better deal. I will say that I think Tim Thomas sucks, I'd rather have Cardinal. Bad attitude, sulks on bad teams, won't play up to his potential unless he's in a contract year, etc.
