JARVIS HAYES SIGNS 2 YEAR DEAL WITH THE NETS

I personally think this was a great pick up. I know we're not done dealing yet so it'll be interesting to see who we add but I think he is great. I loved him in Washington even with his injuries and thought he played solid in Detroit last year. I think he's good enough to take a bigger role. He's still young (26) and is a solid defender with a decent offensive game. Plus getting him to sign a 2 year contract rocks.

This is the first free agent signing in a while I was 100% behind.

Now we'll have to wait and see what other guys we bring in through free agency and trade.

I'm a big fan of this signing. He's very versatile and has a higher skill level than people think. I'm fairly excited about this signing, although I wish we could have gotten Boki back.

Eh, if he stays healthy, he's a good buy. But we have a history of going cheap with good players who'll take less because of their injury history, only to get little to no value of them due to (ready for the surprise?) injuries.

Hope it pans out for us.

I'm like the exact opposite, 44. I'm not a huge fan of the signing, but it's better than Boki IMO.

What? When has this ever happened?

Jamaal Magloire, Eddie House, Jay Williams, Jeff McInnis, Lamond Murray, Rodney Rogers...

:D

In any case, I do like him though. He's got a good stroke and was a good part of Detroit's offense off the bench last season. I'm not so sure he's quite the man Wojnarowski claims he is on the defensive end. I thought he was horrendous on that side.

Hmm...I wonder how much of the MLE we used on him. In any case, he does end that 2010 offseason.

I've seen him every year as a Wizard and if Jarivs can stay healthy he's a damn good player he's very smooth and smart. I remember when they asked him in 06 the last year with the Wizards which players was a tough player to cover and he noted VC might be the toughest and said he always liked his game and athleticism and now they will be playing on the same team. Great pick up by the Nets the nets even though they will be young we can see this team to be a deep one.

I'm sure no one is going to remember it but I pinpointed Hayes as one of the guys who the Nets could have realistically gone after last year and who could have provided a decent return given his (contract) value.

Oh well, I like the signing, Hayes is the fill-in not-a-pure-scrub kind of player I wanted the Nets to sign. If the Nets lose games I want them to lose them with dignity (*cough* *cough* Miami Heat *cough* Chris Quinn *cough*)

Good signing. I actually forgot he was a free agent.

I'm sorry but Jarvis Hayes is not a "solid defender". in fact he isn't even a decent defender. It's one of the reasons why Piston fans were actually mad he kept getting playing time.

Still, he can hit an open shot. He's a streak shooter, as long as its understood that he'll have some hot shooting streaks and some really cold ones where he sucks for like 5 games in a row, it's a fine pickup. I imagine he'll get more minutes/opportunities on the Nets than on the Pistons, where we had to go from a defensive ace in Prince to a defensive black hole in Hayes, it was very jarring.

Doubt he's going to be the starter here anyway.

I haven't seen much of the guy but it looks like Detroit used him as a wingman (2 / 3 position). His numbers seem decent defensively vs 3's but awful vs 2's so considering his size he is a natural 3.

I can't be too excited about a guy who's a career 41% shooter & who doesn't seem to be a good passer. At least he hits FT's at a decent enough clip but Pistons fans don't seem to be bothered that's he's gone. He didn't seem to have much positive impact at all when on the floor.

Currently Simmons & now Hayes seems like the sure SF's for our squad. Not good.
I guess VC / CDR can play SF also. I wonder if Ryan Anderson (who said he feels best at the 4) can play some 3. Hassell is with us too but are they shopping him but who would be buying...signing Hayes might mean Nets don't expect to keep Boki.

If Yi / Anderson could spot play the 3 (meaning they don't kill us defensively) that would make for interesting matchup problems.

^^^^ I'm sure we're gonna package Swift/KVH/Marcus in some capacity to address the 2/3 spot with a more starting caliber player.

Good point on the Boki situation. I hate to see him. He was one of my favorite Nets over the past few years (my favorite usually is a bench guy ever since Kmart left). Boki wants security (i.e. guaranteed years) over a bigger salary so maybe we can still keep him and do a "play whoever is hot tonight the majority of the minutes at the 3."

Regardless, the rest of July and August should be rather intersting for the Nets.

Nice Pick up.

We needed a shooter we got one. I wanted the Nets to draft this guy if he was available. Dont remember what # he was picked.

Most likely he will come off the bench. If Simmons sucks, I can see him starting. I think Hodges is a no go. Jaycee might still have a shot at SG.

I dont see why we need Najera now. He is going to take time from the PF. We have too many SF types. We need combo guard that can really play the point. We still have MLE. This is going to be interesting. I hope we arent too good. I dont want to get the 8th seed.

We need a SF and i believe we're gonna get it via free agency, there's lots of free agent SF's this year. I don't feel like we're getting a Michael Petrius (although i would really love to have him) because he's probably gonna demand multiple years but someone like Jarvis Hayes is not a bad alternative, he would come cheap. There's more cheap SF to like, can you guys name some?

There you go, i called it!!!

Solid signing, at least we know Hayes has a pulse.

I see we're going SF by committee, which I can live with this year since we aren't doing anything anyway.

Simmons, Najera(?), Hayes is not bad but not great either. Maybe Yi will surprise us and will be able to play the 3 as well. Plus, Carter will do whatever is needed and CDR can probably fill in too

After Najera is taken care of, a PG is a must but maybe we might just hold on to Marcus after all. I'd like to see the Camby deal explored, as long as we arent giving up Boone or Sean.

Man, i hope we -are- good, but i don't see us getting more than 12-20 wins if the kids can't hang.
