Roaming Jazz?

Post#1 » by bsutefan » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:24 pm

I've been pondering something for the past few months. Consider this scenario:

The Denver Broncos announce that they will play at least 1 pre-season football game at Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah each year for the next 5 years. If things go well, then the Broncos have agreed to play 1 regular season football game in Salt Lake City after that. They keep 7 games at home, and play 1 game in Utah.

Don't you think that would instantly make the Denver Broncos the most popular NFL team in Utah? Instantly the fan base for the Broncos would jump drastically. Clothing and Apparel sales would jump, and Utah would be full of Bronco/NFL fans.

Obviously the idea of Utah attracting a regular season NFL game is highly unlikely. However, it would be much more likely for an NBA team to be willing to give up 1 or 2 regular season games each season considering they have 41 home games.

Why don't the Jazz capitalize on the stupidity of the NBA to let the Sonics leave Seattle for OKC. Seattle is a huge market with great sports fans. If the Jazz agreed to play some preseason games in Seattle, and played 2 home games there each year, don't you think it would make the Utah Jazz much more popular in Seattle. If Seattle fans bought Jazz gear, and watched Jazz games on TV, maybe the Jazz could get more nationally publicized games.

Just an idea, thoughts?

Seattle might be too far but Boise (which they do training camp) and a preseason game or two in Vegas or even Reno, would be amazing.

Do you have a link to the whole Denver/Rice Eccles announcement or is that hypothetical.

They did the whole training camp in Boise thing while I was living there. It was an interesting phenomenom (SP?). People showed up to watch the practices--what was comical was they were doing simple drills to warm up and people were cheering. But in the end I don't know that it actually changed perceptions much.

the broncos game at rice eccles is hypothetical meant to show how 1 game a year could change a city.

The most popular team in Utah according to SI polls is a tie between SF and Denver with GB close behind.

I don't think it is a good idea. People will just show up for the road teams.

I hate the Broncos but if they were to play 1 game a year here I'd be stoked and go every year.

Just shows you that NFL is better than the NBA.
