Why not trade for Kaman?
The writing is on the wall. Camby is traded for by the Clips. This means more than likely that Kaman is gone.

If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

The problem would be that we would have to look at him every game. He is ugly as sin.
And why would Miami trade Marion for Stackhouse and Damp?

it wouldn't surprise me if they just moved camby to power forward. i think we should focus more on getting the wing player that we need

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
I would think that Miami would want younger cheaper, like the other center in dallas.

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
No way in hell Miami does that deal.
The Clippers have a stud named Al Thornton that will be their starting SF next year. THey have no interest in Howard, not that they would do the trade anyways.
A good dream tho.

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
Mavs wouldnt do the first trade, Miami wouldnt do the 2nd trade. I dont really like the idea of trading for a player right after their first good season, especially after Dampier.

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
I think the Clippers are still looking for a Brand replacement.
I propose Dampier + Bass for Kaman + Thomas (dump)
Clippers
Camby / Dampier
Bass / Powell / Fazekas
Thornton / Williams
Mobley / Gordon
Davis / Knicht
Mavericks
Kamen / Diop
Nowitzki / Thomas / Singleton
Howard / Wright / Green
Stackhouse / Foster / Jones
Kidd / Terry / Barea

We aren't trading Kaman... Camby will most likely play PF.

Dumping Thomas and adding Dampier throws out the idea of dumping. Damp doesnt have a bad contract, but Thomas' isnt that bad either.
There's no way the Clippers are or should trade Kamen unless they are getting a sure All-Star and even then, for him being a legit center who scores inside, it would take a great package to get Kamen out of LA. We dont have anything outside of Dirk by itself to make the trade. We're not getting Kamen.

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
Clips wont trade a young good center and replace him with a 34 year old with a lot of wear on his knees. They will play side by side and shut down the lane. And that Miami trade is just stupid. They can trade Marion for Artest or Odom or maybe Josh Smith, now.

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
Can someone tell me how the hell the Clippers got Camby for a 2nd round pick? Even if the Nuggets wanted to clear salary why not clear salary and get a better player for him? Why not get a 1st round pick for him? What the hell is going on with this trade? Is this part of a future deal b/w the two teams that hasn't happened yet? It makes no sense to me and I don't even understand how the trade even works salary wise. Could the Mavs not have made a move to get Camby? I"m all up for giving up J HO to get Artest.

Clippers were pretty much the only team with enough cap space to take Camby's contract without giving anything back to the Nuggets. They apparently didn't want any contracts since they're well above the luxury tax or whatever. Not sure why they didn't go for a 1st rounder or got it though.

The trade wasn't for Dampier; it was for Bass!
Dampier was to match salary with Kaman and the 125% rule was stretched as far as it could to include that bonehead that ranks #3 on my "never want to see in a Mavs uniform" list.
But regardless, this is pretty much a dead subject as the Clips would be dumb to trade Kaman unless they get a proven all-star (as PG01 said).

i was referring to YDM's trade and that the "writing is on the wall". They didn't make the Camby trade to replace Kaman, but to play next to him.
The best time to have acquired Kaman would have been after the 06-07 season and before Brand got hurt in the 2007 off season. Kaman had just gotten a big extention before that season and had a 'disappointing' year, eventhough we'd kill for Damp to have those numbers (10.1 pts, 7.8 rebs). Now, after this past season, he's forever raised his value.

For what the Clippers are paying him it doesn't make any sense to move him.
$9,500,000
$10,400,000
$11,300,000
$12,200,000
That's a very affordable and friendly contract for his services.

Re: Why not trade for Kaman?
with Brand and Maggette gone LAC has to hold onto some pieces
Kaman's going nowhere
besides starting lineup of:
Baron
Mobley
Thornton
Camby
Kaman
isn't that bad...

Camby is playing out of position and Kaman will be relied to score a lot more than before.

I may be wrong but didn't Camby play PF with the Knicks for some time? Don't forget Kaman averaged nearly 16 ppg last year without Elton Brand there, so he's already had to do that. Plus Camby is a 10 ppg career scorer and they added Baron Davis who can light it up and Thornton is probably ready to explode. I think the scoring load will be fine.
