Our 2 PF's at summer league

Post#1 » by gusto910 » Thu Jul 17, 2008 1:08 pm

I got to watch the 6ers play the wizards last nite on nbatv. I must say i was really impressed with speights and smith last nite. Speights was constantly hitting the 12' jump shot and smith was constantly draining the college 3 pt shot. With brand taking most of the minutes at the PF spot, do you see speights or smith taking minutes away from dalembert because they are i can see speights being a major contributor this year and smith also contributing more offensively than he did last year

I see Speights as more physically ready to back up Sam, but Smith has better experience. Smith also has a good jumper- something the team desperately needs.

I see Smith getting decent minutes the first half of the season, and Speights emerging later. Sam sometimes gets in early foul problems, so the minutes will be there on some nights.

I guess the big question is how this effects Evans. The guy hustles all over the place, but I'm not convinced he can stay ahead of Speights on the depth chart very long. I also doubt there will be any takers for him on the trade market.

Reggie Evans will always have a place on this team. His defensive hustle (and CLUTCH scoring  ) are a big catalyst for this team. Sure Speights is much more talented, but Reggie Evans is experienced and probably our most effective defender. Figuring out if Speights will overtake Evans on the depth chart is the least of our worries.

Exactly. What Reggie Evans brings to this team can be valuable no matter how your team is built.

The development of these guys gives Mo options to mix and match depending on the opponent and game situation. I think either could back up Sam depending on who is in for the opponent. Match-ups, Match-ups, Match-ups! In the right situation you could even put Evans in at the 3. Especially if he is on the court with Smith who plays outside so well and can be free for open jump shots.
