Gerald Green Looking good for Dallas what a waste?

I know it is just summer league, but Gerald Green is looking really good. Last night he had 17 points in a win. I still cant belive we picked up Novak option but didnt go after Green. In my opioion I cant see how Luther Head, Steve Novak, Hell even Stevie Franchise didnt get cut last year for Harris, and Green did? Didnt we also give a 2nd rd for him. It just doesnt make any sence to me. Can somebody explain it?

If Gerald Green gets his mojo back, maybe one day he'll be as good as Donte Greene.

Green was also cut by Boston and the Wolves.

If we end up looking stupid, at least we're not alone.

He's just too immature and with what our team wants to accomplish, we don't need to wait on him. He's the typical case of giving a child too much money or any body for that matter. They get satisfied with the first paycheck and stop working hard because they think they're set, until they get cut. I hope he becomes a solid player and learns from his mistakes because I wish the best for everyone.

Tim Duncan played like crap

Because out of the 4 garbage players listed, these 3 have contracts with (some) value.

when gerald green starts playing decent in a regular season game and not summer league, then we should have a thread for this. until then, lock!!!!!

He still looked raw to me, but he can make the shot when he's hot. He's still raw defensively and in alot of aspects of his game.

It's just summer league man, Rocket fans should know this more than any other with the recent success of Brooks and John flippin Lucas.

Green didn't start playing basketball until High School and went from there to the NBA. Word out of Boston was he wasn't exactly the smartest guy around and was/is incredibly weak in fundamentals. His lack of experience just playing basketball leaves him w/out much of an understanding of the game. He was/is esp. bad recognizing defensive principles.
On the other hand he is a great athlete and has a sweet jumper-and not much else. He is a classic example of why the NBA is incredibly f***'ed up in developing players. The League always assumed that 3-4 yrs of NCAA ball would give players their fundamentals and the tools needed to succeed in the NBA. But the influx of first high schoolers,now one-n-done college players has shattered that assumption and the NBA hasn't adjusted. Every rookie coming in should have their own personal coach-preferably an ex-NBA vet-who works w/them every day on fundamentals,film work,encouragement,helping them understand how to practice and reviewing games and practices w/the player. Name any other business that gives commits millions of dollars to an employee and then tells him to just learn the job as you go along. Calvin Murphy should be w/Brooks every day showing Brooks how to get the job done when undersized. If the Rockets had kept Green,a Bobby Reid would have been the perfect coach/mentor.
The Rockets traded away Bonzi to get Jackson and needed somebody to back-up Battier. Harris knew the system from camp,Green didn't. When Yao went down and the team needed to add a Center,Harris knew system,Green didn't. Luther was only back-up SG on team. Waiving Francis would have cost the Rockets the $2.6mil+ Steve has guaranteed for this yr,whereas all it cost to waive Green was the balance of last yr's salary. And Stevie's salary would still count against cap this yr. While I say I would have bit the bullet and waived Francis,as a first yr GM having to explain to my owner why I just wasted $5mil on a FA bust and was going to put him into the Lux Tax next yr,well...

Hakeem didn't play basketball until he's 17
4 years of college worked out great for him
Mutombo didn't play until he's actually in college (his age is questionable, if everyone assumption is correct, then is about 22)
does 3-4 years of college fundamental development work?
of course it does
it's just that those already got millions of contract don't feel like working hard

Let me get this straight, Novak, Head, francis had more upside than Green? Novak does one thing shoot 3's Green can shoot 3's Head is an undersized 2 that has more upside than Green? Green is 6'8 and can play the wing!!! You cant honestly think that Green was worst than any of these guys? We trade for him he was never released by any team, if he sucked so bad he would have been cut bottom line. The idea that they knew the system an dhe didnt doesnt fly either because everyone in their hearts new we where not going to win the Title without Yao and yet we cut him from Mike Harris, isnt he like Chuck Hayes twin Brother?

wadero come on he is not that good in this summer league.
in 63 minutes of playing time he didn't pass not even one assist.
He is shooting 37% from the field.
He has a solid % from the free throw line and a very good % from 3.

He has been decent , I would have prefered him over Novak and Francis and maybe even Head too , but he is not good enough or shown enough to lose sleep over imo.

If you want to hype up summer league games, then Steve Novak was an NBA Summer League All-star in his first year in the league. By that logic, Steve Novak will be better than Green. Green hasn't proven himself. He needs to play more than just one game, to get to the All-star team. :lol:

How true that is. Look at last year's all-stars. It' reads as a who's who on players who can't score more than 10 pts agame. I can spot 3 out of 16 players on the list that may have scored double digits in the regular season. That's a pretty high failure rate.
