Dallas puts all its eggs in one basket
This is a scenario where Dallas realizes Kidd doesn't have much time, Dirk isn't getting any younger and they are a team that needs to win now, or forever hold their peace.
Trade one with Denver:
Dallas Trades:
Josh Howard
Jerry Stackhouse
Brandon Bass
Denver Trades:
Allen Iverson
Why for Denver: They are obviously rebuilding, Stackhouse gives them a big expiring deal and Howard and Bass give them two young guys to continue to build around.
Why for Dallas: They get a go-to perimeter scorer who is desperate to win and can give a fire to this very complacent Dallas team.
Trade 2 with New York:
Dallas Trades:
Jason Terry
New York Trades:
Quentin Richardson
Why for New York: They solidify their point guard position without Marbury and get rid of a guy who hasn't been happy there.
Why for Dallas: With Kidd and Iverson, the minutes just won't be there for Terry and thats unfair to him. They get a guy who can start at the three for them and we all saw what Richardson can do when you put him with a great point guard. He is a terrific shooter and a solid defender. He will help spread the floor for Iverson and Dirk and seems like a good fit. I know Terry is the better player, but Q is the better fit.
Free Agency:
Sign Horry for the vet min. San Antonio doesn't seem to want him back and this guy is a proven winner. Bring him in to help the locker room and help this team get it done come playoff time.
Re-Sign Antoine Wright. He can be a solid backup for Q. The 3 spot is obviously their weakest position, he can help a little bit there.
08-09 Dallas Depth Chart
Kidd/Barea
Iverson/Jones
Richardson/Wright
Dirk/Horry
Dampier/Diop
This is a lineup with 3 hungry superstars who want to win a chip, similar to Boston last year. They go for it all and hope for the best.

If we could find a quality 3 then I might consider Howard for Iverson, but QRich is definitely not it.

I agree with you on that about Q, but he was the only 3 who I could find that you could get for Terry. Any other team who needed a point guard, didn't have a 3 worth or that Terry could net and the other teams with 3's just didn't need Terry. I was thinking maybe a sign and trade with Bonzi and New Orleans for Terry in case they can't sign Pargo, but I didn't know the details of New Orleans plans to justify that.

AI for Howard, Bass, and Stackhouse.
I like getting Bass. Young PF who looks to be improving. Howard really doesn't fit. And Stackhouse is getting old and didn't exactly have a good year.
Denver Line up:
Atkins/AC
JR/Stackhouse
Nene/Hunter
Melo/LK/Howard
Kmart/Bass
Is there a team that would give up a PG for Howard? If Denver could move Howard for an upgrade at PG, then I'd be more interested in this deal. Don't like Stackhouse, but hopefully he'll be able to knock down some open shots.

Denver's lineup would obviously need some tweaking, but Howard definitely wouldn't be behind LK and would definitely start at shooting guard, he's only 6'5.
It would look more like this probably:
Atkins/AC
Howard/Smith
Melo/LK
Kmart/Bass
Nene/Hunter
Now you might be able to get Felton from Charlotte for LK and a pick, but Howard is very capable of playing shooting guard and would be a very good compliment too Melo.

Howard is listed at 6'7'' but is only 6'5''? Ouch. I listed him behind LK, only because I really didn't want Denver keeping him. He wouldn't be a very good compliment to Melo at SG though. JR is a much better compliment because of his three point shooting ability. Melo needs shooters around him.
If Denver could do this for AI, I would take back all the insults I've thrown at them for the Camby trade. I'd love that deal. Bass, like. Gooden, adds much needed center depth. Stackhouse, I'll live with in this deal, and Hinrich I've wanted.

Howard has an extremely long wingspan thats way more important then actual height.

Do not get your height information from RealGM. They use a players draft-day height, even several years later.

Man, if I wanted to rebuild (cuz that team is not competing for the playoffs), I could come up with much better trades than those sour eggs.
AI is NOT worth Howard and Bass. And as long as we have Terry, AI is NOT worth Howard OR Bass!!!!!!!!!
And I'd rather have Stack than Q-rich.....Terry >>> Stack > Q-Rich

AI is the most overrated player in the NBA.
He made the Nuggets no better than Andre Miller. He would not help the Mavs either.

Exactly. I dont want any part of Iverson unless he comes dirt cheap. Dallas says no way to both deals. Plus Kidd would become useless wit AI dominating the ball. This just makes no sense for Dallas whatsoever.

You're completely and totally wrong.
The coach did nothing to try and put a system in to take advantage of AI and Melo. He also started a backup at PG for most of the year. You can't blame AI for that.

Don't blame the coach!!!!
AI "IS" and has always been the problem on any team he has played for and I'm not just talking off the court issues!
His playing style is the exact same reason why Baron Davis and Gilbert Arenas will never win a championship.

Re: Dallas puts all its eggs in one basket
I'm sorry, but you haven't been following the Nuggets then.
Karl failed horribly as a coach this year. He played AC way too many minutes as a starting PG. If he tried to put a system in place, started JR at SG, the Nuggets most likely play a lot better, finish with at least 55 wins, and get past the 1st round.
Oh yeah, speaking of wins, despite Karl not coaching the team, AI and Melo somehow got the team to 50 wins. That's more than they won with Miller. So you are wrong about them being no better.

Re: Dallas puts all its eggs in one basket
I would be amenable with a Howard-AI swap, but no way would we throw in Bass as well...
Just as a note though, I seem to be the only Dallas fan accepting of a JHo-AI swap which is weird since I'm easily the biggest JHo fan on these boards.

Regular season means nothing. Im not saying AI made Denver better or not, but judging success based on what you did in the regular seasons means nothing. I know, Im a Mavs fan. Judge based on the playoffs.

Re: Dallas puts all its eggs in one basket
Actually Regular season does have meaning. They don't pull out 50 wins, Denver isn't in the playoffs. 50 wins is more than they ever got with Miller, and considering how crappy they were coached, 50 is amazing in the West. In the playoffs, against the #1 seed, coaching is more important, and we all saw what happened then.
I still can't believe Karl stuck with his man crush so much in the playoffs and had AC or AI trying to D up Walton or Vlad. How the fawk does he keep his job?! At least you team made it to the finals and had a number 1 seed. Yeah, losing to a #8 must have hurt, but your owner made the smart move. Can't say that in Denver.
/rant
Ermm.. the point, yeah regular season wins do matter when you need them to just make the playoffs.

Re: Dallas puts all its eggs in one basket
How funny....
Dallas with Howard, Bass, Stack and Terry are only focused on the post season because the regular season is an almost given.
Allen Iverson's team (who, BTW, has Melo, Smith, Camby, Najera, Martin, Kleiza and Carter) has to worry about the regular season because he ain't good enough to assume he will be in the post season.
And you want us to trade for that and Q-Rich? LOL! Fawk no! Denver may have been better with that same group minus Iverson!
