Some Rumors involving Cs

Post#1 » by canman1971 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 11:56 pm

Not sure how credible this guy is, but he seems to be a AM radio guy in LA. I can't see the Lakers trading with the Cs, especially after getting smoked in the finals. But other names are mentioned, all of which we have discussed.

http://allaccess.am570radio.com/hacksaw ... _headlines

...The Boston Celtics have approached the Lakers about a deal for young backup forward Trevor Ariza.

...The Boston Celtics, who lost James Posey, are talking to free agents Maurice Evans of Orlando, Matt Barnes of Golden State, and Ryan Gomes of Minnesota.

Interesting. I wonder what we'd offer for Ariza? Scal's salary matches up

It works for me. But, I quoted everything it said about the Cs, so I wouldn't worry. Also, like Maxwell said, it probably is not correct anyway but it gives us something new to talk about.

I live in SoCal and Hacksaw's rumors aren't too reliable. Can't imagine Boston and LA dealing.

Perhaps Ariza is a S&T for Tony Allen or Eddie House. He would be a nice pick up.

Evans and Barnes do nothing for me but Gomes would be great.

You don't think Gomes basically gives the Cs what Powe and Davis do? Undersized scrappy hustle players.

Ariza would make a whole lot of sense, I amnot opposed to either Barnes or Gomes at apropriete price tags (3 mill each)

I don't really think Gomes is that good at SF. Maybe in a pinch, but I don't think he is quick enough to guard the position, especially guys who can shoot the 3.

Ariza is in the last year of his contract, so the Lakers could be looking to get another player back for him. Not to mention, the Lakers have depth at small forward. They've three other players besides Ariza. He's only twenty-three but gives you nothing from three-point range. Unfortunately, the Celtics don't have a player who matches his salary. And there's no way they would want Scalabrine.

I've an interest in Barnes, somewhat of an interest in Evans and no interest in Gomes.

Gomes can shoot way better than Powe or Davis, for that reason alone I think the comparison is crazy...Gomes gives some of the inside scrappiness of those two, but he has a reliable mid range J and the others have nothing resembling one.

Gomes is not that good of a shooter. Yes, he is better than Powe/Davis, but Powe/Davis are better rebounders and defensive post players. I'm not suggesting that Gomes isn't any good, just not for the salary that would be required to get him from MInny and the fit for this team.

If you add Gomes, IMO, you are adding him to be the backup PF, with Powe shifting to C in an undersized backup combo. Gomes would be the shooter while Powe played down low. It wouldn't be terrible, and if Patrick O'Bryant can't work out, it might be our best option.

I'm ok with Ariza but he isn't exciting. When he was in with the Lakers I used to hope they'd pass to him...but he can play decent D. I couldn't imagine we give the Lakers anything more than a 2nd rounder for him, though, and given that our 2nd rounders are so low, you have to wonder why they'd even bother. Maybe a 2nd rounder and the rights to Bill Walker or Erden...but Erden probably has no value, and I don't want to deal Walker for Ariza.

Gomes is a much better shooter than those guys and is a capable SF offensively. His defense is where he needs work.
Look at his hotspots

464 on straight away 3s. 457 from the left corner on 3s. He's pretty poor from the elbows, but he's really improved his shooting since we had him.

Not at all. Gomes has a more dynamic offensive game. I think he is more of a SF than PF but he is the kind of guy who can carry the offense for your bench as a true 6th man. He has range out to the 3pt line and he can get to the line. He has the ball skills of perimeter player. While he isn't a great defensive player he is better at the 3 than the 4 and he can get in the passing lanes and he could be a guy who really benefits defensively from playing with KG.

I like Gomes but I'm concerned about his defense. If he only plays the 3 then i'd be ok with him for small $. If we are putting Gomes at the 4, i'm not too thrilled.

I really dislike Barnes.

I don't know that much about Evans, but from the few times i have seen him I would be ok with signing him. He seems like a pretty good offensive player. How is his defense?

Ariza? Personally, i'd rather just resign Tony Allen - even though i'm usually pretty tough on TA, he is better then Ariza.

Please, Gomes can't carry the offense. He can make open shots, but he can't create shots for himself. Powe can create shots better then Gomes IMO.

Gomes isn't a good fit for this team IMO. At a cheap price, sure. But he would probably demand around 4 million/year which doesn't make sense since Powe is a better pf and there are better options for the wing spot.

Neither Gomes or Powe create their own shot, while I agree Powe is a better rebounder and probably a better fit at the PF spot I think they both have the same issue defensively at the 4.

As far a player who can carry your bench scoring, one guy has avg in double figures over his career and the other guy has yet to completely establish himself as a rotation player. While circumstances dictate some of this it is still reality.

I think Gomes would fit the bill as the 6th man, who plays the mins behind Paul and Ray and scores 10-12 a game and grab some rebounds. I don't really know who you are talking about who would be better options they can't be the guys in this thread.

I think it will come down to money and I just don't think that Boston can afford to pay him enough so that MINN won't match.
