Realigning the Western Conference

Post#1 » by Sports Arsenal » Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:40 am

With the recent addition of the Oklahoma City Franchise to this part of the country, I think that a realigning of the Western Conference divisions only makes more sense now.
The southwest division has been stacked, and in my opinion the most dificult division in all of professional basketball.
Ideally I would prefer to move Chicago into the west, and Memphis into the east but I just dont see it happening.
But other than that this is my thought.

I see why you would put switch Dallas and OK City to even out the division, but I just don't see Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio not being in the same division. If anything OK City would go midwest.

Your map has Dallas in the wrong place. It is further east than that. Putting the city in its correct geographical location demolishes your rationale for moving it out of the division.

I really do not see the NBA shifting teams out of certain divisions based on the strength of teams in that division because who knows how those teams will look in the future. Their decision will be strictly marketing/regional based.

Very interesting. Dallas, Utah, and Phoenix are now in the same division. LAL is set to dominate the likes of LAC, GSW, SAC, and even POR. Our division got a bit easier with essentially replacing the old Sonics with the Mavs, but we still have SA and NOH to worry about.

Still this makes our schedule slightly easier, at least on paper.

yeah...I noticed that right away as well. The OP's map has Dallas somewhere southwest of Wichita Falls.

Look - you will not break up the Texas Triangle. Any plan calling to do so is just silly.

OKC is definiitely north of Dallas. If there's gonna be a team in the midwest it would be OKC. But switching the teams based on competition is not wise as they change from year to year *cough*MIAMI*cough*. Dallas is already on their way down, as well as Pheonix, while OKC can only go up with the progression of Kevin Durant *cough*WEIGHT ROOM*cough*. And bersides, any way you realign it, the Rockets are gonna win in 08-09 anyway!
