Rondo made 3 of the most spectacular plays in the NBA last y

Post#1 » by GonzoLays » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:53 am

1) When crossed up Steve Nash in the lane and almost made Nash fall over as he went in for a layup.

2) On the road against Denver, Rondo was on a fast break and did his patented behind the back fake as he was going up for the layup and made Anthony Carter fall on his ass when he reacted to the fake.

3) The fullcourt dunk against Rip Hamilton when Jason Maxiell fouled him.

And remember Rondo in the playoffs? He had some huge moments. Like the 10 straight points against Cleveland in game 5 of the series when the C's where down 15. The series clinching jumpshot against Detroit in game six. And his superhuman effort in game six of the finals: 21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals.

If Rondo ever gets a consistent jumpshot, even a tony parker like jumpshot, this kid is going to be lethal.

i think his most spectacular play was when he follow-slammed, then stole the inbounds, scored and drew the foul. that was the kind of play you make against HSers, not pros, preseason or no.

I believe his dunk was NBA.com's #1 dunk in their top ten for the season, I'll have to look again to be sure.

I think that was last year, but yeah it was cool.

Was Game 5 against Cleveland when he hit the back to back 3 pointers? I couldn't believe my eyes when that happened. Rondo's a good player, but for him that was incredibly unexpected, and there was probably a good deal of leprechaun luck involved. I mean Rondo only made 5, 3 pointers all season, and then all of a sudden he hits 2 BACK TO BACK!?

Agreed especially with the game 5 Cle comment, if he missed one of the two threes we probably wouldve lost that game since Cle would have all the momentum going into the half and possibly the series.

Well that play was in his rookie year, in a preseason game against the Knicks. So more or less it was against high schoolers.

Rondo hit the second highest percentage of his jumpers in the playoffs for the celtics. Only KG% hit a higher percent and was only by 2 or 3%.

I love this thread! There can never be enough Rondo love! Those three plays Gonzo mentioned are amazing, as are the others mentioned here (the back-to-back threes in Game 5 against Cleveland--you beat me to it Rocky!).

A personal favorite was stealing the offensive board from Dirk in a close one against the Mavericks in Boston, and laying it in for two.

Yup, that play is a very close second to the dunk ove Maxielle for me. I love how he times his reboudns and is able to board over 7 footers.

He is agressive and I think he can only keep on getting better. The day after they won the finals he is in the gym shooting 300 jumpers!!! Kid is insane.

+1

Did you guys see him on Rome a while back? I love how he handles himself w/media. Understated, mature, humble yet confident. Seems like the kid has his head on straight.

Bruno-

Where can you find the postseason stat breakdowns for jumpers and the like? I'd like to check that out.

Damn I wish I could tell you. I read it in Seventeen, the Boston Globes book they just put out about the celtics 17th banner. It was in one of those stories. I will look it up tonight.
