LAL|PHX

Post#1 » by joe.linnen » Tue Aug 5, 2008 5:50 pm

I seen this trade on the board and was wondering what others think of it. I like it for the Lakers because they get somebody that fit the triangle better. I want to know what Suns fans think of this trade.

Lakers in: Boris Diaw
Lakers out: Vlad, Mihm

Why for LA: they get their backup PF who can pass, score, and shoot the mid-range jumper
SF:Diaw
PF:Gasol
C:Bynum
SG:Bryant
PG:Fisher

Suns in: Vlad, Mihm
Suns out: Boris Diaw

Why for Suns: they need more shooters around Nash. Vlad gives them just that.

SF:Bell
PF:Radmanovic( he won't live up to Marion but he'll get open looks on a fast break team)
C:Stoudemire
SG:Barbosa
PG:Nash
(this is only when Shaq is on the bench)

or

SF:Radmanovic
PF:Stoudemire
C:Shaq
SG:Bell
PG:Barbosa
(they can run sets of the triangle with this line up)

I say hell no! Vlad is even softer than Doris, and that's the last thing we need right now. Throw in Farmar and than we will talk trade.

Why would Phoenix THINK about this trade? Mihm is useless because he cannot play the 4, and as a 5th big, we need a guy that can play both big positions. Not to mention Vlady's contract run's into the same year as Diaw, so doesn't help us there, because Diaw is CLEARLY the best player in this deal. I say throw in a second and Farmar, and we can THINK about it. Then again, Farmar is just another undersized backup..

Ya, the problem is that I would rather have Diaw for 3/27 than Radmanovic for 3/20.

Plus, it is very rare that division rivals trade players.

That being said, Mihm is pointless as a rental. We can pay Marks less to do what Mihm does and the league will foot part of the bill. I think there are much better gaurd options out there than Farmar right now. Ariza is the only player that really entices me, but that's from a fan standpoint and not a FO position.

Just out of curiosity... what would LA do with Odom? If I had Diaw at SF, I would start him over Odom for sure because a front-court of Diaw - Gasol - Bynum would be deadly.... still, where does Odom go?

PG:Farmar

Radmanovic:
2008/09 $6,049,400
2009/10 $6,466,600
2010/11 $6,883,800 player option

Diaw:
2008/09 $9,000,000
2009/10 $9,000,000
2010/11 $9,000,000
2011/12 $9,000,000 player option

I doubt neither of them will opt out of their contracts so Radmanovic is owed $19.4M for 3 years and Diaw is owed $36M for 4 years.

Id rather send Diaw for Tim Thomas straight-up if the trade is just about for salary dump.

Division rivals don't really trade with one another.

As a Suns fan sign me up for this trade. Radmonovic would bring three point shooting which the Suns could use after trading Marion also Mihms deal expires this year and that's 2.5M and that money could be used to sign Dragic. Not to mention in 2010 once Nash, Shaq and Bell come off the books that's a extra 2.5M to spend on free agents, every $ counts.

If I were LA, I would be looking at guys like Travis Outlaw or Martell Webster to be brought in as my SF for the future. I don't think tweaners like Diaw and LO are going to be the answer for them at the 3. For chemistry and cohesion, a guy like Ariza seems to be a better fit with Bynum/Gasol up front than LO, Walton, Vlad or Diaw.

I would swap Diaw for LO and his one year remaining, it would be UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE to get rid of Diaw's contract for anything less then a swift kick in the nuts (which is what I would consider Vlad in a Suns' uniform)!

I feel like LA wouldn't be interested in Diaw for Odom. Reminds me of Barbs for Ben Gordon, too similar to make sense swapping - plus IMO LO is better. What do ya think Deep3cl?

Lakers would do it. They'd get better, and make us a worse team. Radmanovic was worthless in the playoffs, keeping him in was arguably the biggest mistake that Phil Jackson made the entire series.

Talent wise LO is better, but if you had a choice of Diaw + $10M or Odom - $10M, you might have a different answer. But regardless, I think LO is a bad fit for their frontcourt, as is Diaw. There has to be better deals out their for LO.
