Strengths
Brown is one of the most explosive athletes in this draft, possessing good length, huge hands and excellent strength to make an impact off an NBA bench. His first step is terrific, and he finishes with reckless abandon thanks to his impressive strength, body control, tenacity and outstanding vertical leap. He’s worked very hard on his shooting range to the point that he shot 39% from behind the arc as a junior. As a passer, Brown shows good awareness and is very much adept at finding the open man. He puts a lot of pride into his ability to get in right in his matchup’s grill and dictate where he wants to lead them. His intangibles are solid as he’s been praised for being highly coachable and an outstanding citizen both on and off the court.

Weaknesses
At 6-3, Brown is certainly stuck between NBA positions. He has a shooting guard’s mentality, but has the size of many NBA point guards. His in-between game is underutilized, as he either explodes past his man on his way to the hoop or pulls up for a 3-pointer, but rarely utilizes the mid-range. He needs to work on creating space to operate offensively beyond just using his outstanding athleticism. Brown has been inconsistent throughout his college career, looking outstanding one night and then silent the next. He lacks the polish on both ends of the floor to truly utilize his excellent physical gifts on a nightly basis.

He was also a former McDonald's All American. Obviously an LB type of player.

Too bad about Weaver. I know 2nds are "iffy" at best, but dag I hate just throwing away a 38th pick like that, esp. when guys like CDR and Jawai were still on the table.

Cavs fan here. Although Brown does have a lot of raw and undeveloped talent, I do not see at all how he is "very adept at finding the open man" and "very coachable." His biggest problem in Cleveland was that whenever he got the ball, he would often be a black hole on offense. If he got the ball, he seemed to be focused on trying to score no matter what. Often times this resulted in poor shot choices and overdribbling. He does have some talent to work with, but he never learned his role on the team and never really grew at all as a player. Maybe Larry Brown will have more of an influence, but he was a huge disappointment for the Cavs. Hopefully he'll turn it around for you guys in Charlotte.

Definately needed a quality guard better than what Weaver showed via SL. I just hope this means they are seriously working on bringing aboard a quality PF via trade or FA.

Shannon Brown has talent. If he can work on his ball handling skills and learn how to finish at the rim he's a Monta Ellis type of guard. His ball handling skills in Cleveland were really poor though. He's 's doesn't take care of the ball at all. He's going to have to address that or LB won't play him at all.

He's a classic undersized 2 guard, but he's a natural scorer. He plays much better in transition than in the half-court. He's not nearly as effective in the half-court.

ohh he's gonna do it if he gets any playing time. His hops is unbelievable, a highlight worthy dunk each time he played (which was roughly 10 minutes combined these past two seasons).


Yes, he's a black hole on offense, but that might be due to him not receiving any time to play and you could tell that he tried way too hard each time he hit the court. Once he gets more playing time, i'd think he'll be able to calm down and be a team player...

This is as actually a decent signing. The argument that Brown is a blackhole is kind of baseless. You get thrown into the game for the 1st time in a while with 5 minutes or so left in the game, you are going to try hard to impress. Its just natural.

His numbers as a starter didn't indicate a black hole on offense. About 13 pts, 3 rebs, and 3 assists in about 30 minutes (4 starts last season).

Small investment that could pan out pretty well.

I'm excited about how the team is being built. Before we didn't have a lot of talent--that was able to stay healthy, now we're getting the talent and an obvious upgrade at coach. I'ts up to Larry to make this team his own and to develop the players, which he was able to do in Detroit. I'm excited about this season, and look forward to what happens this year!

I think that more moves might be coming. Could involve trading Morrison , Carroll or Wallace for a quality 4. LB sees more of something in Shannon than Weaver...,but I think there maybe a bigger target. Maybe Al Harrington or David Lee

I think if they would just sign Fazekas or Landry as the 15th player and go to camp they maybe ok. Alot hinges on Mays health and how much Davidson has come along.
