All-Time Dysfunctional Wolves Team!

Post#1 » by Gopherguy » Fri Aug 8, 2008 10:13 pm

Put together your worst Wolves starting lineup of all time. Not with horrible players like Shane Heal, Maddog, and Gundars Vetra but with guys who excelled at making us worse regardless of their ability.

For instance, here is my team:

PG: Stephon Marbury, not for his play but for the way he drove Googs and himself out of town.

SG: Isiah J.R. Rider, oh so close in picking Ricky Davis but JR is just too strong!

SF: Latrell Spreewell, "I gotta feed my family" season was the alltime worst from a good player.

PF: Christian Laettner, college stud, pro cancer.

C: Michael Olowakandi, toughest position of all to pick with sooo many choices. Stanley, Rasho, Mark Blount are all up there as favorite center malcontents but Kandy was the worst.

6th man: Rick Mahorn, first player chosen in the Wolves dispersal draft. Refused to report to team. Followed closely by Chuck Person and Antoine Walker, neither of whom were ever happy here!

Your time is coming guys, no one get so much bad Karma without having their time at the top.

Then again, my Saints haven't gotten anything in 40 years now....

I think your list is right on. There was a classic story somewhere, a few years back, where Kevin McHale reflected upon some of the excuses Isiah "don't call me JR" Rider had for being late to team events. If anyone remembers what I'm alluding to, please post a link. Unfortunate for Isiah the dysfunctionality continues to this day.

Two names I would add are Eddie Griffin and Pooh Richardson. While Eddie certainly had issues and horrible demons, his behavior while in Minnesota certainly qualifies him. So much hope was placed on Pooh's shoulders as our first #1, and he certainly didn't live up to the billing. Not necessarily his dysfunction, more of a franchise dysfunction. But certainly Mebury caused more dysfunction.

Mahorn was a legit bad azz. Ironically, his play is the type of player people on Wolf boards have clamored for a long time. Perhaps our failure to land that tough, mean, rebounding machine is the curse the Mahorn.

As dysfunctional as it sounds, I would be very interested to see how that lineup would work. All "bad apples" on one team? They may play beautifully together.

Marbury/Cassell
Rider/Davis
Sprewell/Person/Walker
Laettner/Mahorn
Kandi/Blount

A lot of talent there but, wow.
