Why do people say that the Pistons Team has been failing ...

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Fri Aug 15, 2008 4:03 am

Why do people say that the Pistons Team has been failing when they have made at least the conference finals the last 6 years in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008 and making the NBA Finals in 2005 and winning the title in 2004?

I mean seriously I think any franchise would take that in any 6 year run especially if they didn't have 1 top 10 player in the league.

because they choke..... i dont care how good Wade is, a guard should never shoot 60% against a great defense..they hold him to 50%, Pistons probably win that series in 2006...same with Lebron in 2007...

Thats 2 series they lost when favored...that couldve been 4 straight Finals in a row........Also if Rasheed just holds his own vs. KG, theyre in the Finals again...but the guy got completely dominated.

Pretty much. Granted the only reason they were favored this year was Ray Allen had pulled a disappearing act for the first two rounds of the playoffs. Still they had a terrible 4th quarter collapse in game six. As much as I love them from 2006 on they've failed to live up to expectations.

We've been hearing the "Pistons are declining" talk since 2005 offseason. It is because simpletons think that there's no way a team built like that can keep on doing it. Pistons didn't reach the NBA Finals the last 3 seasons? Oh how terrible, they must be declining while still keeping busy being the first team to reach 6 straight conference finals since the Showtime Lakers. Now I also agree that bringing back the same squad next year might still be enough to reach the ECF but won't be a clear-cut threat to win the championship, but Pistons deserve a lot more respect. Especially from people who think teams like Magic have surpassed them, lest we forget that for half of last series a Billups-less Stuckey led team took care of them in 6.

Pistons dont need moves, they can beat anyone...its just about Rasheed, Billups, Prince playing better in the Conference Finals...slowly, their reputation as a clutch player is starting to die down.

See, that was unfair to Rasheed though, he could have played better, but everyone predicting him to match KG is out of their mind, he's never been that good of a player.

As for LeBron and Wade, I don't think they really choked, they just don't have the caliber of player to go heads up with them, granted Pierce isn't that good either, he can be in spurts, and he had a supporting cast that helped him out a lot. When those guys start scoring, you need a go to scorer, and they really don't have that.

I still would call them a success, I thought they should have beaten Miami and Cleveland, particularly Cleveland, but I wouldn't call it a choke.

Years from now, people will look back at this Detroit run and really be impressed with the consistent high level of play.

But people are saying that we fail now, because in a way, we have. The team disappoints. But then again, us Pistons fans have much higher expectations for what our team should be doing right now then say, Memphis fans do.

I'm upset with coming so close and falling short, but things could be so much worse.

Honestly, they rule in a conference of weaklings. Cavaliers couldn't even make the playoffs in the West, yet, their sucky team beat the Pistons.

Coaching changes, the departure of Big Ben, and the rise of the Celtics and the Western superpowers have left Pistons stranded in their hopes for winning a biggie another time.

Win the finals in five games
Loose the finals in seven games
Loose the conference finals in six (?) games to the eventual champions
Loose the conference finals in six (?) games to a team that gets swept in the finals
Loose the conference finals in six games to the eventual champions

Barring last season that looks like a very good team in a slow but noticeable decline. No one sensible is saying they suck, or predicting that they are going to suck next season, but they're not that championship team any more.

I don't know of anyone that has said that the Pistons have been failing. But, in truth, if your goal is to win championships anything short of that is failure. The Pistons have been and are a very good team. I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't have been happy with them over this time.

Because a championship is the goal for that team - not a conference finals appearance? Could it be that simple?
