Would you want Kidd on the Magic?

Post#1 » by Starscream » Thu Aug 21, 2008 6:44 pm

I saw on the realgm front page that Dallas may not want to extend Kidd's contract making him a free agent after this season. I remember reading an article where Kidd stated Dwight would be a "free agent magnet" Suppose Kidd is interested in the Magic because of Dwight, would you want him on the Magic? I think it would be a great move, Jameer could learn alot from him and his playmaking abilities are very good.

yes...it would have to be economical, but if he wanted to come here at a discounted rate and accept a backup role, I am fairly positive that this team would have no problems with adding him...Dwight loves J Kidd...

At Kidd's age, i can see him signing with us for a very inexpensive one year deal.

we don't need someone to "turn the team around", if this team got turned around now, we'd be headed back towards crapville. Adding Kidd would mean having another leader on board, a teacher, a veteran, who happens to be one of the best PG's this league has ever seen and this will make for one hell of an addition...it's true, he may not have much "greatness" left in the tank, but he still has some great stuff left in that tank, and at a reduced role, he will be an excellent upgrade to the likes of Arroyo/Diener and other flakes we have had...

i dont know. I would want to see how well Jameer does. See if he can continue to play like he played in the playoffs, then I would probably say no because i dont see JKidd accepting a backup role yet. But Jameer has been inconsistent at times and it would be nice to have Kidd here but, Im gonna say it wouldn't work cause doesn't Kidd want one more semi long term deal to finish out on? I don't think we could give him that or should.

agreed 100% I would think that not only would he improve this team but he would also put fans in the seats which is what RDV wants and it gets us close to a title shot which is what Otis wants. Everybody wins and that would have to be the perfect move. Only 2 things holding this signing back.

A) RDV will not go to the tax even if it means bringing on a big time name like Kidd who could start if Jameer is out for injuries or whatever
B) Kidd I do not think would sign for the minimum here even if it got to mean that he was playing with dwight. I think he would want to get a least a MLE or around the same money

Dont get me wrong it would be nice to get his passing abilities and he definitely could get the ball down low to Dwight but I just dont see it being a realistic option unfortunately

Jason Kidd will be what, 36/37 when his contract runs out next year? he's already made gobbs of money, he's a level headed guy, he hasn't performed like a star in years and he knows this, I dont see too many teams making huge offers for him if any, I see it as a possibility, you know that all of these teams will offer you comparable money (for the most part, some teams can offer more, and this might be big for Kidd as he wants that extension) but for most players at this point in your career it comes down to where do I fit the most? which team looks most appealing to me? ...guys like Kidd are what every championship contending team needs...old Jason Kidd > old Sam Cassell/Derek Fish

also, if we're contending next season, and this comes about, we'll go over tax to sign a guy like Kidd if the deal is fair...but if we're not contending, we're not exceeding...

well I hope Otis is keeping an eye on this situation because it would be nice having a lineup looking like this for the 09-10 season

PG - Nelson, Johnson, Kidd
SG - Pietrus, Lee, Redick
SF - Turkoglu
PF - Lewis, Battie, Cook
C- Howard, Gortat, Foyle

Plus whatever we draft. I believe that would be a championship team. I took out Bogans b/c I believe he is gone next year and I dont see a resigning happeneing unless he explodes this season like he did at the beginning of last year. Either way if Kidd does not come here or if he does whatever PG we land would definitely be improving over arroyo.

BTW I was not putting Kidd as a 3rd string I was just putting up names in the spots.

Heck yes I would want Kidd on the Magic.

He would be a great tutor for Nelson and he would anchor a bench will Lee and maybe Hedo that could hold strong when the starters sub out.

My number 1 FA target wish next year is RWallace then Kidd is a close 2nd.

I feel kidd would start with us everyone here seems to think jameer would be a great 6th man for us at that time hedo will be gone let jameer play backup point and be that scorer for the second unit that we need. have a traditional pf
kidd
pietrus
lewis
pf?
howard
and jameer coming off the bench scoring 12-15ppg would be a great asset for us what does everyone think.
Kidd is a leader we dont need scoring from the point position and he will pull in 5-6 rebounds a game with 5-6 points and 9-11 assists a game with relative ease.
Plus he would fill the NEW arena every home game just on star power alone!

Jameer wont come off the bench for this team unless he's in the doghouse...

I think he would come back to the east because the west is stacked with young talented guards that can blow by him nightly.

On a side note, I just realized something. If the Mavs don't resign Kidd that means they gave up Harris, Hassell, Ager, and 2 draft picks for basically 1.5 years of Kidd and Antwone Wright. If they don't win this year that has to be one of the worst trades.

If the price is right hell yeah. But that would be the problem.
