MVP's for both conferences!!!

Post#1 » by DaDragicShow » Mon Sep 1, 2008 5:38 pm

I was just wondering in NL AND AL can give out Cy young Awards for both conferences in baseball, then why can't NBA do something like that and give out Mvp's for best player in the Western Conference and Eastern Conference. Most years alot of good players get snubbed and if the NBA gave out the award to both conference it would make it fair.

So what do you guys think of this?

alot of things aint fair...
1 team winning the championship is not fair, should we give out 1-30 trophies to so its fair?
To me if you give an MVP to both western and eastern conference you're taking away the value of a MVP trophy. It's not meant to be fair, who cares if someone got snubbed. If they where not a 1 year MVP fluke, they can duplicate their performance that season.

If you can maintain season by season dominance, you will eventually get the hardware, a prime example is Kobe.

I don't think so it diminishes the value of the MVP. Unlike the MLB the the teams in the NBA play the other conference the twice a year and the rules are the same. In the MLB the AL and NL only play each other a few times a year not playing the entire league. The only significant rule change is that the pitcher has to bat in NL, which is a pretty significant change in my opinion. If the East and West didn't play each other so often and had some rule changes, then sure but as of now no.

No, baseball has two MVPs and CY Youngs because they are two different leagues, they have different rules and they dont play every team out of their league every year. If the NBA turned the East into a league and the West into a league and had interleague play for say 10 games against the other league then yes you should have two MVPs but since its just one league and every team plays every team at least twice then its just not logical to have to Most Valuable Players, because then there wouldnt be a MOST valuable player, instead a Just as Valuable as Another Player, But More Valuable Then All Other Players (JVaA,PBMVTAOP) and that just sounds obsurd.

It still doesn't make it fair. If the 2nd place MVP vote-getter for the West (Chris Paul, for example, this past year) is more deserving of the MVP than any player in the East, how is that fair to Paul?

It's what the All-NBA teams are for.

And having two MVP's one going to each conference would actually create the possibility of being more unfairness then just one MVP trophy. Let say LeBron and Kobe played in the same conference, and yet they had to give one award to LeBron and one to some random player who clearly isn't as good as the other player in the other conference.
