With mother's health improving, first baseman settling in
From a personality and performance standpoint, the Braves haven't had the opportunity to get a sense of who Casey Kotchman might be. Three weeks after being acquired from the Angels, the 25-year-old first baseman rushed home to spend nearly two trying weeks with his mother.
Doctors still haven't determined what caused Sarah Kotchman to spend the latter part of August in an intensive care unit in St. Petersburg, Fla. They've scheduled an angiogram later this month to test the blood flow in one of her arteries.
But all medical specifics aside, Kotchman is simply relieved that his 55-year-old mother is back at the family home and able to communicate in a normal manner.
"She feels better and that's all we care about," Kotchman said. "She's in good spirits. She's building up strength to do physical activities."
As Mrs. Kotchman attempts to regain her health, her son provided her some reason to be proud with his play this weekend. Kotchman recorded consecutive multi-hit games for the first time with the Braves on Friday and Saturday.
