Memphis/Atlanta/Miami - Dec. 15 deal

Post#1 » by pardon_my_interruption » Wed Oct 1, 2008 8:15 pm

To Miami:

Mike Bibby/Hakim Warrick

To Memphis:

Shawn Marion/Yakhouba Diawara/Second round pick (Miami)

To Atlanta:

Kyle Lowry/Antoine Walker (bought out)/cash via the Heat

*Hawks also get a $4.5 million trade exception out of the deal.

Thoughts?

Why is Memphis giving up anything for Marion? They're nowhere close to contending this year, and will have caproom to pursue him outright in the offseason if they want him. This jumps the gun and gives two young players away.

It's an ok deal as long as Memphis turns around and deals Marion elsewhere for some prospect better than Lowry... which might not actually take that much creativity.

Actually... I see no good reason for Miami to do it. They don't need another ending deal. They need someone who will be able to grow alongside Wade/Beasely - and that's why I'm not surprised that they have shown interest in Hinrich/Gordon.

Let me get this straight - Miami downgrades from Marion to Bibby, gives up a 2nd rounder, and gives up cash, all so they can get Hakim Warrick to backup Beasley and Haslem? We don't even get to dump Banks?

I'm sorry, I don't see why we'd do this...
