Why didn't we sign Kwame?

Post#1 » by dookieguy » Tue Oct 21, 2008 11:52 am

Didn't we have him for try-outs? With Marion, Wright, Diawara, I don't think James Jones was completely necessary. Not to mention he was signed for about 4m, we could've taken him over Jones, right? Wasn't a legit C more of a need than another backup SF?

First of all, that would imply that Kwame is better than what we have at center, and I'm not convinced of that. You're talking to someone who was advocating that we sign Kwame before we added Magloire, because I wanted a big, defensive minded big. Well, we got one for less money. Kwame and Magloire - both of them are what they are - big guys who can play physically. Nothing more, nothing less. Magloire was much less of a financial commitment.

Second of all, one skill neither Marion, Wright, nor Diawara possess that Jones does is his ability to stretch the floor. Sure, Marion and Diawara are competent shooters, but they're not guys who scare defenses. Last year, one of our biggest issues, was that we couldn't get teams out of the lane. Well, we went out and got ourselves someone that they HAD to respect. Jones means teams can no longer pack the lane and dare Wade to shoot.

because Kwame is AWFUL. He's worse now than he was in Washington. I agree that they signed too many wings, but Kwame sucks

Are you saying Kwame would be worse as a center than Blount? My main worry regarding the Heat is their lack of size in the paint and Kwame would have helped in that area. As an offensive option he is useless but as a defensive player he is decent.

You guys desperately trying to recreate the 05-06 Lakers? Maybe you guys should have kept Smush Parker and take our Luke Walton, trade Marion for Odom.

Smush
Wade
Walton
Odom
Kwame

Brilliant.

Honestly, Kwame isn't as bad as he seemed. It's just that Kwame is too dumb to play the triangle which requires post play from the center.
